Pink Loves Brown Studio

Getting Things Done, So We Can Begin

Our next big project is going to be the studio floor. Brandon and I will be ripping out the nasty beige carpet and putting in bamboo. It’s the same bamboo that we used in the bedroom a while back.

The bedroom was our first floor experience, and the whole project took eight days (I think). Hopefully we can be a bit quicker this time, but I’m not sure. There is a LOT of stuff in my studio. Heavy stuff. Stuff I wish would magically move itself out of there.

Of course, there are a few things that need to get done before we can empty the room. This mostly means product photography. I actually like setting up my little photo shoots, but I never seem to get around to it.

I like your little lighting studio set up. Is that a Tupperware container? Natural daylight bulbs or halogen? I can see you might get a lot of questions from this post:)

Yep, that’s my DIY lightbox! I use GE Reveal bulbs (100 watts) for three of the lights. In the second lamp from the left, I have a 60 watt GE Reveal bulb to soften some of the shadows. There’s a great article with lots of info and tips here: Taking Professional Looking Photos Without a Professional.

And Lili, yep… it’s either now or in January. I’m so eager to get it done now. The carpet that’s in there is so gross!

I hope you’ll share any tips you have about laying the bamboo floor. I have the same project ahead of me and also lots of heavy stuff that I wish would move itself. Do you have “super sliders”? I felt like the strongest girl in the world when I moved our china cabinet on carpeting, by myself, to paint—they really help and you don’t have to worry as much about scratching the new floor when moving all back in. Also, do you have a rule-of-thumb as to when you paint the ceiling the same color as the walls (like in the bedroom)?

Oh wow! Thank you thank you for the photograph of how you set up your shots. I have been trying to photograph some of my portfolio pieces and it never looks as professional as I would like. I have been half tempted to hire someone.

I will be visiting that link you mentioned above for more tips. Thanks!
