A Lovely Second Purse

I’ve finished my second purse! It was much more complex than my first, and there was a lot of hand stitching involved.

My Handmade Purse
(I’m lovin’ those Deco Remix shoes.)

I used Indygo Junction’s “Metropolitan” pattern, from purlsoho.com (scroll down a bit – it’s halfway down the page).

It may not be perfect, but I’m really pleased with the finished project!

Wow! Impressive job, I would say that that looks like you bought it. In a really good way.

Great purse! I’ve been seeing that fabric around lately. I picked some up a while ago and made a purse of it myself, though not nearly as nice as yours! I need a little practice with purses.

  4. Making it Lovely January 23, 2008 at 1:24 am #

Well, I could use a little more practice too. ;)

I’m feeling more and more confident with my sewing abilities though! Practice indeed makes perfect. Or less jacked up, at least.

  21. Sommer January 23, 2008 at 12:21 pm #

Awesome job! Sewing is one thing I haven’t tried yet. Knitting I can do, but sewing scares me for some reason.

  22. Jenne January 23, 2008 at 1:43 pm #

    I’m impressed! That looks wonderful!

  23. Marriah January 23, 2008 at 1:59 pm #

I LOVE your bag! Please tell me:
    1. did you stitch this by hand or use a machine? (I don’t have a machine)
    2. how much previous practice have you had – I don’t really have much (or any) experience with sewing other than buttons and a few tiny projects
    3. Would this be a good beginner’s purse? (please say yes :) – I love it and don’t want to wait to try it!)

  24. Elizabeth January 23, 2008 at 2:07 pm #

    It looks perfect to me!

  25. Elissa January 23, 2008 at 2:13 pm #

Oooooh, that’s super cute! Is that from the Amy Butler pattern? If so, I like it much more than the others I’ve seen from that pattern! I think I might have to put this one next on my list of things to sew. Right after the bench cushion, hobo purse, and wrap dress. :)

  26. Making it Lovely January 23, 2008 at 2:22 pm #

    Thank you so much, everybody!

Sommer, sewing scared me too! Now I’m getting more confident with it.

Jane, the shoes are from Remix. They were definitely a splurge, but I love them.

Elissa, the pattern was linked to up above. It’s Indygo Junction’s “Metropolitan” from purlsoho.com.

Marriah, I don’t think it’s really suited for beginners. I think it was a little above my skill level! I’m just starting out and trying to teach myself to sew. I used a machine for some of the early steps, and then finished everything by hand sewing. If you don’t have a machine, I’m sure you can still make it. It will take a long time though!

Oh, and zee – it took me forever to make! 10 hours? 12? Something like that. I’m sure it would go much faster for someone with more experience!

Hey, the bag is awesome! I really like the color palette, and the pattern…feels sort of modern retro, and fits the remix shoes perfectly. My sister worked for them a few years ago when she lived in LA, and got me some cool “granny shoes” This was the same time that Johnny Depp wore them at I think it was the premier of Pirates of the Caribbean 2?

    Are you a professional designer?

  44. Arabian Girl March 24, 2009 at 1:39 pm #

… Hello .. I saw your bag while i was search in Google and lead me to your site..it is very Great and the color is what I can say..Very Beautiful..I Hope one day i can do one like yours..And i wish if you put the pattern with it.

    Sorry For my broken Language:)
