Another New Dining Room Table (& Chairs)

Whoops. Just over a month after I bought a new dining room table, I’ve purchased another. With six chairs.

Sorry for the poor picture quality – I only had my cheapie little digital camera with me. Look at that table base though!

I’m about a week too late to return the other table, so I’m not sure what to do. I suppose I’ll either be selling the west elm table or this new set, depending on which works out better. I’m going back next Saturday to pick everything up.

The table and chairs are from Jubilee Furniture Co., which you can read about here. I went with my friends Genie and Sarah, and we scored a couple of other goodies too…

Genie got this fab lamp, and I picked up two of these matching end tables:

Genie also grabbed this adorable dining set:

Sarah and I spent a few hours rearranging Genie’s apartment when we got back, and I think she’ll be writing about it on Apartment Therapy when the makeover is complete. Sarah will also be reviewing Jubilee Furniture Co. for AT, so be on the lookout for that soon.

Um, this new dining set better be worth it. Brandon was a bit annoyed with me.

Oooo, I just saw more pictures of your dining table and chairs at the link you provided to BarryBlog. Preeeeetty.

Any plans to reupholster the chairs?

You might still be able to return the table to West Elm, albeit for store credit, though possibly still for cash. I bought two sets of curtains from West Elm a year and a half ago (July 2006). I didn’t end up liking either, but stuck them in a closet one day while straightening up before a party, and promptly forgot about them.

I found them again a month ago, and figured it couldn’t hurt to call about it and see if they’d do anything for me. They said they’d give me store credit, so I sent them back. For some reason, they ended up giving me store credit for one set and just refunded my credit card for the other set. So if you decide that you like the new table better, you should at least call and see if a refund is still possible.

Oh my gosh. I could have written this post about the dining set. I am ready to order a new dining table even though the one in there now is about 6 months old. My husband is so annoyed with me. I am kinda annoyed with me so I don’t blame him. I should have gotten the darker wood and now it just drives me nuts everytime I go in there. Why should I live with something I don’t like.

I love the new dining set. However I love your current one. See why I am having my own issues? They are very different looks so I guess whatever one works best once you try them both and pick. I wish I lived closer I would buy your current one in a heartbeat.

That is a great table! I would call West Elm and see if they will take it for store credit!

That table made me drool when I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Feel free to download the photos I took of it on my blog and keep them for yourself. I really appreciate you and your AT friends taking time to make it to the sale. I see all the cool stuff and it makes me smile. For one, you got some neat stuff that had a first life, and now another with you. And secondly, your purchases will help give people in need the help they are desperately seeking through Outreach Community services. Hope you stop back to the store again. Keep telling others about this place and talk your friends into donating stuff to them if possible. God bless.

    Thanks for the link, too.

oooooooooooooooooooooooh get rid of the west elm table! and set this one up ASAP.

You can go in many homes and see the west elm table. but who can say they have this wonderfully nice gem?? NONE OF THE PEOPLE OUR AGE AT LEAST! this is a classic piece…and I’d keep it..it goes lovely with your home…and Brandon…well you will just kiss him..and he will feel better…because lets just face it…when the woman of the house is happy..EVERYONE IS HAPPY! :)

PS…this should be your LAST table purchase! hahaha lol! seriously…

I predict this will be your last dining table purchase of the year. It is absolutely perfect! All you need is to reupholster the chairs to add a twist to the vintage modern. Have you seen Amy Butler’s new fabrics coming in April? Any one of them would be great!

How are the prices at this place? I live in Bloomington, IL and was thinking about driving up if they are reasonable.

I swear those are the exact same end tables we had in my house growing up. I’m pretty sure my mom still has them.

I will swap out the fabric on the chairs, yes.

“I predict this will be your last dining table purchase of the year.”
Hee! Yes, no more new dining room tables until at least 2009. ;)

Chasity, the prices are really low! It’s definitely worth a trip out.

Oh! Sarah posted the first installment of our budget makeover for Genie’s apartment! Head on over to check it out (and see a dorky picture of me with my new table).

The base on the new table is really nice, but I prefer the old table – actually I LOVE your old table!

Maybe you could take pictures of the new table in your living room so that we can see it in what will be its natural surroundings? Ooh, and please do something in PhotoShop where you show what different fabrics will look like on the chairs. I love it when you play with PhotoShop. :-)

Mama mia, I love me that new old table (you know what I mean, the newest purchase, but the secondhand table). I’m just a sucker for an x, whether it’s an x-bench ottoman or that fabulous x-based table. Can’t wait to see it in your space with some purrrty new fabric on those chairs.

Makes me want to repurchase everything in the house…

So you were the one that beat me to the table!! I was in on Saturday around noon and was so upset it was already sold. If you want to sell it to me I will take it in a heartbeat! Pretty please!!

Hoping to hear from you =:)

So cool to see these pieces in action and hear the stories. I am so glad you and your friends got some good deals and had a good day at Jubillee and more importantly together. God bless you all for helping me spread the word. Hope to see you there sometime. I am punching myself for not buying that 60’s ceramic map. With a new shade, that will look like a $700 light. Awesome.

I like the table (maybe I don’t love the finish), but I’ve been trying to think all day of a way to ask this without seeming negative. I can’t. So here goes. Do the Xs/legs end up between the legs of the guests when they are sitting? That might be a wee bit uncomfortable if you’re one who likes to cross your legs when you sit. It seems like they would, but that could just be the angles of the pictures. I may be way off base– hopefully. :)

I’m not completely loving the finish either. It’s nice, but for my house I’d prefer something darker. I think the legs are OK… The chairs are really spread out in that picture because the table is fully extended.

Danish girl, of course I’ll be doing some Photoshop fabric mockups! :)

Anne, I’ll let you know if I decide the new table doesn’t work out.

    And jenn ski… thanks!

You’ve just reminded me how I loathe my dining room chair. I should actually do something about it. Good luck with your pretty new table! :)

After reading Jules’ comment, I headed up to Jubilee Furniture (when the store’s not open, I’m at a desk at Outreach Community Ministries’ offices in Wheaton – the social sevice organization whose programs and services Jubilee Furniture’s proceeds help fund)to take another look at the table Nicole purchased. The “X” legs aren’t an issue when it comes to sitting at the table, however, due to an apron that supports the table top, you can’t cross your legs when your chair is pulled all the way under the table (unless I have freaky fat legs and that’s the problem! :-)

Additionally, I hunted all over the table and chairs looking for the Henredon stamp and couldn’t find one. However, the set was donated with a matching buffet and Henredon was stamped on the inside of the buffet drawers (but it seems funny that the table isn’t also marked – but I swear it was a matched set! :-).

Nicole it was wonderful meeting you (and Genie and Sarah)! Thanks so much for stopping in the store!

Take care – Susan (jubilee furniture general manager)

all Brandon said was “i predict…”??!??! trust me, you have it good. i wrote about a dining table set i found on holidays during the NY and i wanted it so bad.

needless to say, it didn’t come home with us. but i did get some of our current table UNDER my fingernail 2 days ago so i’m kinda over this one hehehe

i LOVe the vintage gem. you’ll never find it in another person’s house!

The new table you found is so far superior to the West Elm Parsons table. There is no contest. Do I just enjoy the details more? A plain table with plain legs vs. a table with the furniture version of an actual personality (and not an overly imposing one)? Reupholster those chairs for sure, but the scheme looks a lot better than where you were going.

Do you still have this Henredon table? We used to have the same one but it was our dining room table with two kids growing up and it got pretty beat up. I’ve never seen another one. If I remember right, it had two or three leaves for it. The mechanics were incredibly smooth! We’d move it into the living room and put in all the leaves for holiday parties! Thanks!
