My Life

My Resolutions, 6 Months Later

I’m doing pretty well!

  • Sew curtains for my office, the guest room, and maybe even the library.
  • Paint the guest room.
  • Finish the stairway. [I need to take pictures though!]
  • Pink Loves Brown will be at the National Stationery Show for the first time this year (booth 4053), so I’d like to really expand the wholesale side of my business.
  • Sew a purse for myself. Until now, I’ve only sewn curtains (for the kitchen and my studio).
  • Implement a new accounting system for the business.
  • Try some new recipes. I tend to cook the same things over and over. [We’ve been grilling – does that count?]
  • Develop a schedule for regularly releasing new designs in the shop.
  • Commit to wallpaper for the dining room. I need to make a decision and stick with it (lousy pun intended). [Now we just need to find time to hang it!]
  • Go to Paris! I can speak French (somewhat), I love the architecture, and I want to go so badly.
  • Excercise. Walking from my bedroom to my office does not count. ;)
  • Make little clothes and sets for my Blythe doll (it’s on the way). [She’s here, but I haven’t done much with her.]
  • Experiment more with photography (that’s what Blythe is for).
  • Find a (shag?) rug for the living room. [zigzags!]
  • Redesign the blog and switch from Blogger to WordPress.

Erm…did you mean to strikeout (line through) every line of your blog going back days?

    Methinks a glitch is afoot…

Nicole, Congrats on so much already accomplished. I’m a new blog “stalker”… via AT and your subway tile backsplash. I’m in the midst of a similar reno (IKEA cabinets and all) and will be subway tiling this weekend. Most definitely inspired by your handiwork.

And love love the kitchen window coverings–any chance you still have sample you modeled it off of… Target seems to have removed the link…

    Thanks!
    Kathleen

It’s been a while since I’ve been to your site. Used to visit all the time to see the progress of the house. You’ve done so much since then. May I just say it looks AMAZING!!! Can’t wait to see more :)

Here’s an easy-peasy recipe you may have never tried.

Do you get Halloumi there? It’s a greek cheese. You grill it, and it’s a bit like bacon (salty) but it’s cheese mmmm.

    Basically to start you need:
-Halloumi (1 pack works for me and my hubby)
    -8 to 10 mushrooms (I like chestnut)
    -onion
    -pepper
    -lettuce
-small pot of crème fraiche or sour cream
    -cucumber
    -mixed herbs, including mint
    -houmous (opt.) Hummus
    -pittas

1.Chop cucumber into small cubes or slices. Mix with crème fraiche/sour cream, then mush it up a bit so the cucumbers release some juice. Add herbs,; about ½ a tsp of mint, plus a dash of fajita seasoning andand ½ a tsp of Italian herbs is what I use, you should experiment. Do not use thyme or rosemary … yuck. Chill the mixture

2.Chop the onion and peppers and mushrooms

3.The halloumi should look like a double deck of cards from front, so putting the ‘deck’ on its long side, slice halloumi into 1-1.5 cm wide slices. Put these under a hot grill and keep an eye on it. It can get floppy before the end, so if using a rack, try to align it so that too much doesn’t hang off the edge. Otherwise fry it on a grill like a lean mean grilling machine (or whatever, which has no space). So this should make like 6-8 slices.

4.Fry veggies and mushrooms in a little oil until done (I like ’em charred), not forgetting to watch the halloumi.
5.The halloumi should start to ‘pop’, and when it starts to become white w/ dark brown bits, flip it over and grill on the other side.

6.Chop lettuce small like for tacos.

    7.Toast pittas and slice open

8.Assemble all bits in bowls on table, eat right away, the colder the halloumi becomes, it gets rubbery.

9.I like either the crème fraiche mix OR Moroccan houmous. Experiment.

Sounds hard, but is easy. We love this and have it almost every week. Hope you like it.

    Good job on your list!

    For the rest:
The best exercise I’ve found is a Yogalates DVD (Louise Solomon) it works, you feel fab and can do it at home, if you have the room. If you can lay on floor and make snow angels, you have enough. get a yoga mat though and be gentle on yourself. I NEVER stuck to exercise until I found this and developed a habit, and I feel super toned. I lost a little weight (about 14 pounds after doing it for quite a while), but mainly I feel stronger. Now I need to up the aerobics somehow. I’m NOT a gym person.

Go to Paris! Stay at Disneyland, visit paris in between, and be prepared for lots of doggie doo’s.

Take care! and good luck with the remainder.

Wow, you’ve actually accomplished quite a bit!

I don’t know what you use for your accounting right now, or what you’re looking to move to, but you should check out http://www.lessaccounting.com. It might be of use to you.

Looks like you’re doing really well with the list! I’m pretty sure that grilling does count for trying new recipies, it’s something different anyways. I love summers for that, the BBQ is so quick and easy!

Don’t you just love striking things out on a list?! I sometimes put something very everyday, like laundry, on my list just for the cheap thrill of crossing it out! Keep up the accomplishments…

I agree with Katiedid… and while you’re in Paris you could experiment with photography and sample new cuisine to get some recipe ideas as well.
