The Side Garden Plan

I’m almost done clearing out the weeds along the side to make room for my flowers (for the second time this year). This is the plan:

Side Garden Plan

The flowers in pen are the ones we’ve purchased, and the ones in pencil are tentatively planned for next year. I also left some room for future (undetermined as of yet) flowers.

The photo below is actually from a couple of weeks ago. It had gotten even worse since then.

Side Garden (Overtaken by Weeds)

I’m heading back out now to finish!

Looks good! I can’t believe you cleared that all out on your own. I would have called it a day after two weeds.

That’s the side yard in front, right? And that’s Murray in the backyard? I ask because Fox Glove (digitalis) is the compound they use (synthetic version) to make Digoxin– a cardiac med for atrial fibrillation and symptoms heart failure. It’s one of my favorite flowers, but not pet friendly. I always plant it in the front or in areas the dogs won’t get to. :)

for as bad as you think your side yard looks, it could be worse. We currently have dead grass and a dead lavender bush we tried to transplant at the beginning of summer. at least yours looks alive and lush. definitely looking forward to how it all comes together.

I love that you included the little iron garden sphere in your drawing and I must say, you drew it quite nicely!

I am really looking forward to the after photos, it’s going to be so pretty!

I love that sketch… Also, so jealous about the gardening projects. Not that I have the greenest thumb, just miss having outdoor space sometimes. It’s so fun to watch your progress!

Jules, yes. The foxglove would be safely on the other side of the fence.

I finished the area! Now it just needs to stop raining.

Can’t wait to see it when it is all finished. I am a garden enthusiast and have been working on a perennial border for quite a while now.. A friend gave me some bachelor button and that is spreading and blooming like crazy…big beautiful purple flowers…the gold finches love them! Have that mixed in with exotic cone flowers (the colors), white astilbe, black eyed susans, shasta daisy, baby’s breath, purple salvia..all very hardy plants with large foliage…

    Good luck with your garden!!!!

I cleaned out a bed like that last fall. If weeding is too much, take layers of newspaper and then put mulch on top. Of course, this will have to sit for a couple of months, but it will kill the weeds. You can always put a couple of pretty container plantings on top of the mulch while you are “killing” the weeds underneath! Happy Weeding!

Hey, nice work. always been a gardening fan my self. The plan looks good. But I assume you have already completed the garden. It would be awesome to have a look at it. Anyway, good job.

I know what a job it is to tackle the overgrown jungle. It’s great that you’ve got your plan in a drawing – it can be both your guide and your motivation!
