The Patio Furniture

Here’s the furniture we used for our new patio.

The Patio Furniture

The white planters I have were from CB2, but I bought them last year and they’re not available anymore. The Retro Bullet Planters at Velocity are similar (and I actually like them better than the ones I have). The garden stool from Lowe’s isn’t on their website, but I just bought it so they’re probably still readily available. The Suzani Pillow is probably a bit too big for the Orbit Lounge Chairs, but I don’t care. I like the colors too much to not use it!

The table and chairs are gone for the year from IKEA, but I’m sure they’ll be back next spring (and they’re super inexpensive!). Brandon likes the wood as-is, but I’d like to paint it. Maybe red for the chairs, and hot pink for the table? Or mustard yellow? White?

Hi Nicole, I just started reading your blog and I really like it. Regarding the patio furniture, I would suggest painting the wood on the Tarno folding chairs in a bright color as you suggested. Leaving the legs black will lend consistency to the legs of the planters and the lounge chair. I would leave the table as is; it balances out the starkness of the pavers with a warmth of color. So welcome and inviting! Enjoy the rest of the summer.

    Hi Nicole
Love the patio! How do those chairs hold up in the rain? Have you had any rain yet? We have similar ones from Pier 1 that I would love to use outside.

    Hi Nicole,

I just discovered you, in your glorious range of all your incarnations, from fridge magnets to being a superb renovation goddess, wielding power drills and all. (We have identical Amazon wishlists on wardrobe organization, btw. Seriously.) Your new patio looks absolutely lovely!
I would keep the wood surfaces natural. They will weather nicer. Also, your table looks like it’s teak, and teak does not take paint very well, beacuse its oils (which make it excellent for outdoor use) repell a lot of the materials in paints and wood finishes. Good luck with all your endeavors! I’ll also try to take a stab at your front yard foilage over the weekend. Looks like a fun project!

I’m always one for painting wood, but I have to admit that I like the bare wood better here. It’s so pretty! I’m sure whatever you do will look lovely, but I just had to put in a vote for the natural look!

I have one of those bullet planters, in turquoise. It’s great. It was a bridal shower present, I had wanted one for a while but when I opened the box I took out the planter part and thought, “Half a giant Easter egg?” I had no clue what it was. Then I found the stand and twigged. I need to get a couple more in the two shorter sizes to really look good.

I like your patio very much, but how comfy are those chairs to sit in? Much as I like great design, I always think that patio chairs must be comfortable enough to sit in for long periods, or else you won’t use your patio.

The planters are terrific, I have 2 of the bullet planters myself which I love as well – another idea – Architectural Pottery planters (I received two for my last birthday – love them!).

Love all of the pieces! The ceramic garden stool from Lowe’s is a “must have” in any sunroom, whether interior or exterior!

Can you tell me what the name of the font is that you used for “The Patio”? I’m in love! :)

I love how you are picking all the colors from the pillow.
It’s great that the stool worked. As for the painting the table and the chairs – I’m all for paint but in this case, I would leave the table as is. Maybe do vertical stripes in pink and red on the chairs or maybe one red, one pink chair… I don’t know. I would rather like to see a fun outdoor market unbrella with those colors and leave the wood as is. I came across this company in Cottage Living, called WW & Co. (www.warpweftandco.com) that sells super-fun sun umbrellas. I’m not sure if you would want one but maybe someone else might like them.

Overstock.com has a garden stool very similar to the one that you have.

We love the way you layout and set up your rooms and have had our eye on your site for some time. It has given us some ideas of how to get organized for our Inn project. Like any design, it certainly helps when you do your research and thumbnails first so the actually doing can be fun and less stressful. Thanks for all your inspiration!

Jessica, the font is Sweetheart Script.

Pencils, the black chairs are very comfortable. The cheap IKEA folding chairs? Not so much. I’d like to pick up four nicer dining chairs and keep the folding chairs as backups.

Lizzie, the chairs look like woven wicker or rattan, but they’re plastic – so they should hold up just fine!

Love your choices! I, too, vote for natural wood. I just think that painted wood outside will be more maintenance, and it looks so pretty as is. Looks like those classic slatted benches.
