Possible Nursery Design

I’ve ordered the Harrison Vintage Ceiling Fixture, and I already have the gold Syroco branch and birds (which may or may not get spray painted). Everything else is still subject to change. :)

For a girl:

The crib, glider and ottoman, bookshelf, and stuffed dog are the same in both versions. The only differences are the paint colors and fabric choices.

Of course, I chose fabric for both versions, not ready-made crib sets. Yeah. I may not actually be up to making my own bedding. The fabrics are all from Sew Mama Sew if you’re looking for them.

i had my mom make all my bedding. she made bumpers and i never used them. because after i put them in there, i read that they can be a suffocation hazard if the baby gets nuzzled up to them. then i have heard of kids who use them as a form of a step when they get older to try and get out. up to you, but you may want to just save yourself the time, money and effort of the bumper pads.

I have those birds! I got them from my grandma a few years ago and I have been in love with them ever since. I also eye-spyed them in a recent episode of Mad Men.

I have them hanging in my grey and gold master bedroom. They’ll be fabulous in a nursery!

You can check them out on my blog:

Make sure that both you and hubby test out a rocker/glider before buying it! DH and I are both on the tall side and found that most of the attractive rocker/glider options out there were just just uncomfortable. Besides being too short for us, many of them were just stiff and uncomfortable to sit on. With my second non-sleeping baby at almost 5 months old now, I am sooooo glad that we went with the most comfortable glider that we sat in… even though it is U-G-L-Y. The glider in your plans looks great and I hope that it is as comfortable as its name implies!
    Congrats!

i’m all for gender neutral and staying away from the pink and blue, but i wasn’t surprised that you chose pink. if the boys tip the scale in your house would you be willing to go blue? it looks lovely with brown!

I LOVE the Syroco branch and birds. To my surprise, my mom was selling the same set in her rummage sale for $5 last year–I picked them up without hesitation!

I custom-ordered my son’s crib bedding through Javis Davis (http://www.javisdavis.com/index.html). They provided great customer service and the pieces turned out exactly like I wanted.

I love your choices though! It’s not too “baby” and really fits in with your style.

I know it sounds lame, but as the mother of three kiddos, I think you should strongly consider getting yourself a recliner somewhere in your house. When baby is awake and will only sleep on your chest for the first three plus months of his/her life, you will need a REALLY comfortable, reclining place to sleep. Take it from me, leaning up against the headboard with pillows won’t do the trick.

I love your blog! I check it every day, but this is the first comment I’ve made :)

Yet another great room design. I love all the mood boards you create.
BTW – what happened to the tall dresser your husband was painting? Are you still going to include it in the room?

Hah! Christy, I’ve been telling her that offline for weeks. Recliners are ghastly, but when that baby is 15 months and has a cold and can’t sleep laying down? All that ugly turns beautiful real quick at 3am. I suggest Nicole buy one and keep it hidden where no one stylish would ever find it. ;)

I think her selection is a pretty good compromise, though.

I really really love your choices! Are you going to know the sex before it’s born? I started talking about babies the other day with my boyfriend (his face was priceless!) and I found out he wouldn’t want to know until it’s here. What?!?! And what about all the shopping?

Oh, I definitely want to know whether we’re having a girl or boy. Five more weeks until we find out!

Christy, Jules has totally been trying to sell me on a recliner. ;)

Tatyana, we’re still planning on having the dresser in the room. I just don’t have a good picture of it to use (since it’s still in shambles in the basement and I never took a before picture for some reason).

I’m glad to hear that it’s not that hard to sew your own bedding. Maybe it’s still a possibility…

i really love your mock up…but recliner???…im not sure i would ever have a recliner in my home..under any circumstance lol..but then again my 4 year old rarely required me to stay up all night..days on end…im super duper blessed by that..maybe you’ll be as lucky :)

however…i really love the idea of the glider. they are easy, cute, and work really well…my only advice like others is MAKE SURE ITS COMFORTABLE..make sure the back is high enough..i held my son CONSTANTLY lol….and what better place to hold him…in a VERY VERY COMFORTABLE CHAIR with my feet up..reading a good book :)

Love that you went with such an elegant room that didn’t require you to change your furniture pieces. The recliner looks confy and all the fabrics are so perfect!!

Love it… though having experienced my fair share of reflux babies and spit-up, I must strongly caution you against a dark, chocolate brown glider ;) Or, at a minimum, suggest that you find something with a removable/washable cover. I can just see that gorgeous brown covered in white milk stains, and it’s making me sad.

Definitely make your own bedding! It’s not that hard and very satisfying…I was finishing up my bumper while I was in Labor! By the way, I used only one layer of batting in the bumper which is much safer and still effective in preventing those bonks in the night :)

Dear Nicole, I follow your blog religiously all the way from Mexico and adore your designs… I don’t mean to be intrusive or something but I’ve studied color a bit and black is never recommended for children… I think it looks great, but you know… Just thought I should let you know, if you want more info. ask someone waldorf related… Congratulations on the baby and on everything else. I am a true fan!

Consider bookshelves without doors, while it might not be so tidy it will make the furniture more stable (even if you anchor it, the doors are problematic) and less chance of figures getting smashed. I know its hard to imagine, but between 9-12 months your baby is going to be pulling up and getting into stuff.

Very nice selections. I love the fabric choices and that rocker really looks comfy–which is essential because with babies you spend a lot of time at night sitting in them. :)

You can definitely make your own bedding easy-peasy – but I would recommend you purchase sheets – I had a super cute set, bumpers, sheet, bed skirt, etc, but the bedsheets were the first to go – because there will be nights where you may have to change out two or more sets of sheets! So find some basic sheets you love that coordinate with the bedding you made (and get several of them). Bed skirts are a great way to add a fun fabric to the nursery, if you are concerned about bumpers. And a cute pillow for the chair. Nurseries are so much fun to create!

My mom made curtains and a bed skirt for my daughter’s room. I bought coordinating crib sheets. It turned out really cute, and I’m glad I didn’t go the bed-in-a-bag route this time.

i am sooooo thrilled that you are pregnant at the same time i am. =) i’m looking for ideas for my baby girl’s nursery right now, and i’m so frustrated that crib bumpers are frowned upon, because those are the cutest part of the set i love: dwell studio’s charlotte. argh!
i think i might make a set as well, and paint some wall art for her.

I have that glider and ottoman… bought it on Ebay about 6 months ago. It is pretty comfortable – I put a pillow behind my back for support. It wipes clean very easily! The microfiber is great. Company I bought it from was Gliders Direct. Congrats on your pregnancy!

So, a little late in the game.. Just a comment about the Orleans rug – it stains VERY easily. Unfortunately, we got one earlier this year and you just look at it wrong and it is stained. :( Since it is wool, it is not an easy task to remove certain stains either. Cats + Wool Rug = Bad idea too. Oh well. :)
