Icicles and Ornaments

There are some spectacular icicles on all of the houses in my neighborhood. Very pretty, and also a little scary (I worry when Brandon goes out to shovel).

Icicles and Ornaments

I made those paper ornaments a couple of years ago (based on the instructions from design*sponge), but I don’t think they’ve shown up in any of my photographs before. I love the way they look with the icicles behind them.

Yes, your ornaments look stunning with the icicles behind them. I will need to make some of these ornaments. They are so pretty.

I know what you mean about the icicles looking pretty but scary. I live on the top floor of my building and I have a sheet of icicles over my back door to my deck about 20 inches wide but approx 4 feet long. They are slowly melting in the sunshine today.
I am not sure how to knock it down without hurting myself or someone else.

Those ornaments are beautiful! Do you leave them up year round or just put them up for the holidays? They certainly could be displayed during all seasons. PS – I love your blog! We’ll be buying a home soon and I’m sure I’ll be visiting a lot to get great ideas!

You might want to take a peek up in your attic to make sure that you have enough insulation up there — that sometimes causes large icicles to form on the side of the roof. (Although they are pretty!) :)

Oooh! Icicles! They do make a very good bckdrop for your gorgeous decorations (might have to make some of those).

I’m so jealous of all these lovely winter pics on blogs everywhere. Here in Australia it’s summer, and gross! I can’t wait for winter, even though there still won’t be any snow for us here in Queensland.

Allyn, I leave them up year round.

And Kerry, I thought the same thing – but they’re on ALL of the houses here. We’ve just had some strange weather this winter… a foot of snow on everyone’s roof to block the gutters, followed by sleety rain to form the icicles.

we have icicles bigger than that on the roof at my work (it’s a 100 year old building with a horrible roof/gutters/insulation) and my boss is so freaked out that they’re gonna fall on us when we walk out the door he takes a broom to them lol. kinda cute that he’s concerned for our safety, but i like looking at them (although they do look sharp!)

and love the ornaments, that would be a great “i’m bored” project for me!

Add me to the number of jealous Aussies who’s never had icicles of her own! It’s cooling down this arvo, but we were in the high 30s (over 90F) today. I’ve got a damp tea towel over my shoulders trying to cool down right now!

Is that another part of your roof outside the window?

    sigh… i love visiting your house…

We had some crazy icicles too – it made from some fun snacking with the kid-let. You’ll have to try it with your little one :)

(in canada we heat pure maple syrup and pour it on snow or icicles to make candies… the more you heat it the harder the candy turns out… But heck – you may know this already!)

I made these ornaments for Christmas when they posted that tutorial. Mine are in Christmas colors and go in my kitchen. I love them and always get compliments. Of course yours fit your house perfectly :)

I love these! I need some for my office and my home office too. Thanks for posting this link.

I swear, I salivate over your home decor. It’s so fun and unique. I would so love to devote more time for that sort of thing, but it just isn’t as viable when you rent.

Hi Nicole! Reading your blog for the first time thanks to Ali Edwards. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the flowered wallpaper (originally for your dining room, you said)! Way back in the 70s (yes, I’m old) I papered my entire bathroom, walls AND ceiling, with it! My husband said he felt like he was sitting in a boutique Kleenex box! So fun to see it again. Still reading….
