The Bedroom, Dressed in White

One nice thing about sleeping my days away lately (pregnancy makes you tired)… when I wake up the room is so light and bright.

Our Bedroom

With a house full of pattern and color, it’s refreshing to have a calm oasis in the bedroom. We already had white curtains that weren’t being used anywhere, and I bought all of the white bedding (a duvet set, sheet set, and two extra pillowcases) at IKEA for less than $75. The duvet cover isn’t as textured as the pin-tuck set I had wanted, but it was a much more affordable option.

Our Bedroom

I bought the west elm rug a while back when it was on sale, and I’m so glad I did. It’s so soft and perfect.

Our Bedroom

I’m sure I’ll end up mixing pattern and color in again eventually, but right now I’m loving my bedroom all dressed in white.

Love your room! Do you know the name of the duvet set from Ikea (I’m wondering if it comes in any colors)? Or do you love to help other people shop? Because I really want the West Elm Organic Metelasse Duvet in the color Slate (I like the pintuck duvet too, but none of their colors). I need somehting that is solid, that isn’t too light (as we allow our dogs on the bed and I can’t keep white things white) and I’d like something with texture to it. Any ideas?

This bedroom is perfect. Really perfect. Thanks for the info. I have one red wall the color of red licorice (the name of the paint actually) but am thinking of painting it. And “chocolate froth” sounds delicious (since I must be on a food theme with my paint colors…)

I love this! I’ve been thinking a lot about white & light lately. I also love color and pattern, but sometimes I think the littlest pops of color can be all that’s needed..like your cute yellow flower, the prints, etc. Where are your shades from – I love those. I need to do something about my “builder blinds!”

It looks great. I love all white bedding.

I listed sources for everything in the bedroom in this previous post.

Tatyana, there isn’t a dresser. No room! Our bedroom is 12×12, and opposite the bed is my huge freestanding closet.

    Kellyt, the rug is 8×10.

I went the same way with the bedroom, but we used Ionic Sky color on the walls and white crown moulding. The light linens lend a serenity which is wonderfully restful for sleeping and refreshing to wake up to. I’m thinking of using another color and accessories denoted by each season just to inspire.

I love the light and airy feel of your room. For me, though, the room works because of your FAB vintage-looking (reminds me of the back of a 50s sofa) brown padded headboard – totally grounds the room, letting the whites/light beiges sing :-)

Beautiful. Like those Philly cream cheese commercials where the angels fall softly through the clouds! Ok…as a pet owner, I have a question. Do you allow your cats and/or Murray to sleep in your room? My cat Sophie sleeps with me, and I cannot imagine what a nightmare pet hair would be on a white comforter. She’s the only thing from stopping me from going all white with my bedding.

Other than that question…I’m uber jealous of your bedroom. It looks fantastic!

Mmmm…. feels very fresh and clean. Nice and orderly, too – great for a nesting mama. I remember running my glass outdoor light covers through the dishwasher right before we had our first daughter :) Maybe I shouldn’t give ideas…

I’ve been loving that scrunchy West Elm bedding, too. Probably won’t happen in our house, either. I love what you chose, though – it creates the same look for less moolah. Lovely :)

Amanda, yes all of our pets sleep on the bed at some point throughout the day. The pet hair hasn’t really been a problem though! The cats come and go (Kili, our fat black cat sleeps there all night with us). Murray mostly sleeps on his dog bed, but he does hop into bed for a little while. It’s cute… Brandon usually goes to bed before I do, so Murray hops in and lies on my side of the bed with him. Then when I come up he goes to his dog bed until the morning. Since Brandon goes to sleep before me he wakes up before me too, and then Murray goes and sleeps on his side until I get up.

Great room! I am IN LOVE with your bed but not too sure if they will ship to Canada. My hunt continues.

Ah, white linens. You’ll be trading those in real quick after the baby comes! There’s nothing quite like afterbirth stains, baby poop stains (diapers do leak!), spit up stains, and milk stains. Sure, bleach is good, but patterns are better! Keep the white curtains and uncluttered walls, though. You could even keep the white duvet, but you may desire patterned sheets. Happy shopping!

Hey Nicole, I have two questions for ya!

    1. Does your bed have a box spring in addition to the mattress?

    2. Awhile back you posted about how you were removing the popcorn ceiling and you had it sent in to check for asbestos. Who/where did you send in? I’m moving into a house in May that has the popcorn ceiling, which we plan to remove, and I’d like to know who to have check before we begin that process. :)

Is your new IKEA bedding available to see on their website? If so, can you let me (us) know what it’s called? I am interested in some “textured” bedding and would like to see more detail of yours to tell if it’s got some texture to it. I just almost ordered the pintuck bedding off West Elm, then I remembered this post that you bought some cheaper. Funny to now see that your “wish” for the bedding initially WAS the pintuck! Curious about your alternative from IKEA…

  • Making it Lovely
    April 8, 2009 at 12:05 am

Trina, the roman shades were from Target.

Cristina, no the bed frame has metal slats in it for support and the mattress rests right on top of those. And to answer your other question, we sent our popcorn ceiling sample to Western Analytical Lab.

Amanda, I couldn’t figure out if it was on the IKEA site or not… it’s so hard to tell the difference between all of their white bedding! The detail / enlarged shots they have aren’t quite detailed enough to find a match.
