Oh, I know it’s hard to wait when you’re uncomfortable & you just want to meet your baby! I remember so clearly that period just before my first child was born, & then my amazement & joy when she finally arrived. It felt so monumental that I couldn’t believe ANYONE had ever gone through it–let alone the other thousands of women who gave birth the same day. :-) Can’t wait to hear the news of her arrival–good luck!

I would write down your due date on a piece of paper and then go throw it in the trash. (I think that doctors need to change the due date to the due month. :) But be encouraged with the fact that you are ALL belly, and so cute! I think that I even gained weight in my nose…seriously.

Well, my first kid (son) was 2 weeks overdue.
Had to be induced. Believe me I was really anxious too :p But now he’s 3 1/2 yrs old and is very healthy. So no worry. The end is in sight. Good luck and congratulations on your first child!

    April 14, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Ahhh, the dreaded “due date”. My babies never complied, but I clearly remember feeling that it was okay to have the baby and having it the next day so even though they were “late” it was always right.
You look like you have dropped and very adorable of course!

How can you be so stylish and beautiful and still be so down to earth? I want to be just like you. I’m about 5 months into my pregnancy, and I really hope I can look as good as you have throughout these 9 months! I also hope my husband cooks me french toast and bacon on my due date! Actually, I have 2 due dates. My husband’s in the Army, and we’re stationed in Germany. The Army OB nurse said September 7, and my German OB said September 8. I’m going by the 7th because I think it’s funny that it’s Labor Day, and then if baby is a day “late,” he’s still “on time.” My mom had 5 kids and we were all 2 weeks overdue though, so I’m almost expecting that.

    April 15, 2009 at 1:32 am

Oh not long, cross fingers for the baby to come safely, I don’t know how it works in the states but here in the UK you are booked in to be enduced 2 weeks after due date. luckily my little boy came early but only after being enduced, can’t wait to see your little bundle of joy, I am sure they will be styling like mommy and daddy x

    April 15, 2009 at 1:56 am

My baby was due April 16th, but she finally emerged on the 26th! I remember doing nothing but crosswords those last two weeks (I couldn’t even read books), and was so swollen – my ankles were like elephant’s, I was REALLY looking forward to the delivery :) It’s an amazing thing! My daughter will be 2 years old in two weeks and is our joy (and fitness trainer too – I lost all of my superfluous 10 kg, without trying, just nursing, holding her and going for walks with her twice a day – had to eat more too). So best wishes to you and Brendan – sleep well, that’s the last you gonna have in a long time :)

    April 15, 2009 at 2:54 am

I’ve never been pregnant before but my mom says that if gravity starts winning and your belly is pointing downwards know that the baby is VERY soon to be here! I am excited for you :)

  • Julie Anne
    April 15, 2009 at 2:58 am

    Cute photo!

Baby Girl Balch hasn’t “dropped” yet, so you’ve got at least a few days, maybe several more.

When you wake up some morning and all the volume that was straight out in front is suddenly a little flatter and visibly lower, then you’ve got three days, maximum, girlfriend. Guar-un-teed.

Someone above hit the nail on the head…even though you are uncomfortable, puff a bunch of pillows around you and try to sleep as much as you can in the next few days. It’s the last decent sleep you will get for about two months.

  • Jacci
    April 15, 2009 at 5:00 am

Awwww, now, c’mon. Don’t tell a sweet pregnant woman like Nicole **on her due date** that she has “a few days, maybe more”.

The truth is that no one knows – not even the docs. I’ve had OBs look me straight in the eye amd basically promise that I’d have the baby that night based on my body’s signs. Guess what – no baby. Not for over a week from then! But, once the OB said I’d be a while yet, and then I showed up in the ER that very night ;) No way to tell what these little sweeties are going to do or when they are going to show up and make your life so instantly blessed :)

Nicole and Brandon, I *do* hope you’ll be able to meet your little one very, very soon. Can’t stay in there forever, right? ;) And you do look awesome!!!

  • Samantha
    April 15, 2009 at 6:03 am

Make the most of it and get plenty of sleep, if you can find a commfy place, cause you will forget what sleep is after the little one comes!
Wishing you all the best, and an easy ride.

I read your blog all the time but this is my first comment. How exciting for me! My little Hollie was 10 days late last September! But she came when she was ready and that was the perfect time. I remember feeling great through the pregnancy but those last couple weeks thinking, “Oh, so this is what uncomfortable feels like!” Hang in there and stay positive – baby will appreciate a patient mama! And good luck with the delivery, you’ll do great!

Too cute!! You should probably go get a pedicure. I have a friend who delivered the day after a pedicure for both of her kids! Something about the pressure points in your feet…Or at least have that stylish husband of yours rub your feet lots!

  • katrina
    April 15, 2009 at 10:49 am

As someone else mentioned – go get a pedicure/foot massage.
not only will it help with the discomfort, but there are pressure points in the feet that can apparently trigger labor.

I adore this picture of you two – it looks like something right out of the 60’s or 70’s – as if it was of my parents or their generation. Did you run it through a filter to make it look older? The tones are just like an old photograph.

I hope your baby comes soon, and in the best way possible!

LOVING the retro-style photo. You two are just too cute. But hang in there. Soon the three of you will be cute together.

I went 2 weeks overdue with my first, so for my second child, I took a tablespoon of castor oil a couple of days after my due date, on my midwife’s recommendation, and went into labor a few hours later. Worked like a charm. Can’t hurt to try!

oh my, you will LOVE this photo SO much in a few years. Right now it feels like you’ve been pregnant forever, but it’s so funny how quickly we forget. The photo has such a vintage quality except for the expression on your husband’s face, there’s just something in his eyes that says 2009.
Good luck with labor & delivery!!!

My best advice is this: Eat before you go to the hospital. Once you get there, they will not let you eat, even if you are starving. I’m not kidding- Eat, even if you don’t feel like it. You’ll thank me later.

  • Jess
    April 15, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Not late, just right, in her own time. :o) I agree with the poster who said that due dates should be scrapped in favor of a “due month” or “due time” as somebody I know puts it. I hope your little one’s right time comes soon, I know (x3) how uncomfortable it is at the end and how ready/impatient you must be, mama!

Oh, the memories! Twenty=three years ago I was just where you are – two weeks past my due date and VERY uncomfortable. My doctor decided to induce, but at midnight the night before I was to go into the hospital my water broke (the first sign that I was in labor) and just 3 hours later my son was born. It was fast and intense and wonderful! My other 3 babies were also late, but just by a few days each.
