Style: May ’09

I put together my May style post a bit early, frankly because I could use the distraction. No, the baby has not arrived yet. Looks like I’ll be going from overdue to truly post-term. I’m scheduled to be induced tomorrow morning.

So for now… fashion! Glorious frivolity!

Style: May '09

I’m eager to wear normal clothes again, though I’m sure it will take me a while to get back to my pre-pregnancy size. Plus I know babies do lovely things like spit-up, so I’m trying to be practical and choose easy wash and wear clothing. A comfy stretchy skirt and a ruffled henley should fit the bill. And how awesome would Moop’s Fraulein Tote be as a diaper bag? I think it would work exceedingly well.

I saw the red t-strap shoes in the Urban Outfitters catalog about a month ago and I’ve been pining for them ever since. They’re pretty much perfect— the low heel looks like a good height to add some style but still be a very walking-friendly shoe. A kicky striped bangle would pick up the red nicely, and gold hoop earrings would be a nice touch too.

OK, that was fun. Didn’t really take my mind off things since I’m basing my wardrobe choices around my upcoming new lifestyle as a mom (!), but it was fun nonetheless. Now I’m off to worry about tomorrow…

I, too, have been checking in for baby news. You will do fine! My daughter had to be induced as well (for different reasons) & it really wasn’t bad. And even if it had been,it would have been worth it! You are on the verge of meeting your baby–how exciting!

  17. Robin April 27, 2009 at 6:57 am #

What a great outfit, Nicole. That is perfect as a nice, but casual new Mom outfit. I may have to head over to Old Navy later, love that skirt. Good Luck tomorrow, keep us posted.

  22. Beth April 27, 2009 at 8:23 am #

I was induced with my second son. I was so-o sick of being pregnant and my dr. allowed me to be induced on my due date, and I jumped at the chance. It was actually really nice, compared to being startled awake at midnight with my first one when my water broke. When you’re induced everyone’s prepared. Soon this will all be a distant memory and you’ll be lovin’ having a darling child, this time a someONE you can make lovely! :-) Best wishes. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow.

  23. bungalowbliss April 27, 2009 at 8:24 am #

    I love that bangle!

I’m soso excited for you. You’re truly almost there! We’ll all be thinking of you and anxiously awaiting updates. :-)

  25. Heather April 27, 2009 at 9:11 am #

Best of luck to you! The porch looks great, and the outfit would be perfect post baby (spit up and everything)…just get the Dreft spray (it does wonders). Comfy t-shirt clothes are perfect!

  26. Ali April 27, 2009 at 9:12 am #

I am using that Moop tote as a diaper bag + I love it :). Have fun tomorrow – will be thinking about you!

  27. Ann April 27, 2009 at 9:13 am #

    Hi Nichole!
I am carrying my Moop Organic Market bag today. I bought it via Supermarkethq… http://supermarkethq.com/product/the-organic-market-bag
I absolutely love the bag you posted and think it would make a PERFECT diaper bag! :)

  28. megan April 27, 2009 at 9:27 am #

Thanks for the updates – we are all so excited to hear the good news!

You will do just fine tomorrow. Just remember, your body knows what to do. Not knowing how it will all play out is truly the hardest part of delivery.

    Hugs from MN.

  29. Stacey April 27, 2009 at 9:40 am #

Good luck with tomorrow! It’s funny, now that you are scheduled to be induced and the stress of “when” is over…I bet you go into labor naturally sometime today. It’s happened to me twice! I’ll be thinking about you.

  30. Enyasi April 27, 2009 at 9:54 am #

I am so happy for you… and the outfit looks great you will certainly be styling the new mom look!

  31. Terri April 27, 2009 at 9:58 am #

Love the outfit you put together…your daughter is so lucky to have a mom with such a great sense of style! Best of luck to you (and your hubby) tomorrow.

  32. pearllinds April 27, 2009 at 10:06 am #

I love the red, white and blue combo – sounds corny when you say the colors out loud, but it’s not like you’re dressing for the 4th of July!! :) And yes, a button down neck henley will be perfect for nursing – and the white is good for spit up, ha! Welcome to the wonderful world of motherhood, Nicole!

  33. Sweet Bait April 27, 2009 at 10:09 am #

OH and one more thing…yesterday my boyfriend came home with a Star Wars “snow walker” and I had NO CLUE where this thing was going to go…I just by chance happened to look at your link to Apartment Therapy and was shocked to see the snow walker! (It made me feel much better):-)

  35. Averill April 27, 2009 at 10:22 am #

I’ll be thinking about you tomorrow — I’m sure it’ll all go smoothly but best of luck!

  36. Dara April 27, 2009 at 10:32 am #

Oh…if you are scheduled for an induction tomorrow then you will definitely go into labor tonight…that’s how it always seems to go! lol Hope everything goes super-well and that you meet your lovely daughter very soon!

  37. Nina April 27, 2009 at 10:32 am #

Good luck tomorrow! It’s the fruition of nine months of waiting!

  38. Jennifer April 27, 2009 at 10:39 am #

Don’t worry – I was induced too. The bottom line is by tomorrow you’ll have your lovely little girl in your arms, so focus on that! Also, don’t know if you’re planning to nurse, but if so, not sure that top will work :) These tanks are great for the summer http://www.glamourmom.com/.

    Good luck tomorrow!

  39. Andrea April 27, 2009 at 10:46 am #

Good luck. I was induced too and it wasn’t so bad. Just try and eat some complex carbs. You’ll need it. congrats to all of you.

I am LOVING the skirt, I have several skirts and pants like that and I feel like I am in my PJ’s!!! Nothing beats comfort+style… Anyway good luck tomorrow, receive my very BEST wishes from Puerto Vallarta Mexico :)

    Congratulations to you and Brandon!!!

Tank up on water now, because they’ll want some nice plump veins for the IV. You’ll also get dehydrated quick with all the heavy breathing, and some hospitals restrict your water intake, letting you have only ice chips, so my advice for you is to drink now, while you can!

You might feel alone while you’re going through it, but just remember that millions of women give birth each year, a majority of them in huts and hovels without the benefit of modern medicine to smooth the way. You can do it!

  44. kellyt April 27, 2009 at 11:40 am #

I bought two of those stretchy skirts when I was pregnant after my friend bought a few and by the end I was wearing them every day (mine are in black and brown). I loved wearing them and even though they say you want to burn your maternity clothes by the end, I am actually sitting in one right now (and my little one is 18 mos old). Still love ‘em. I’ll have to mosey on over and look at the new colors. good luck tomorrow. so exciting, yet so so so nerve racking. It’ll all come out great!

  45. Travelingmama April 27, 2009 at 11:40 am #

Yeah! Baby time! You cannot believe how amazing it is to hold that little person in your arms for the first time. It is truly life altering and yet perfectly wonderful all in the same moment! I wish you a speedy labor and delivery and the sweetest times for you and your family! (Oh, and that fold down skirt would be perfect for postpartum- comfy but still cute!)

  46. desiree fawn April 27, 2009 at 11:46 am #

Hi! Every time I see a new post of yours in my google reader I cross my fingers that it’s announcing the little one ^_^

    You must be so excited!!
    Best wishes!

  47. christy April 27, 2009 at 11:56 am #

Good luck tomorrow! It’s not that bad. I was induced with my son, lathough it still took the little bug 17 hours to evict. :)

  48. jaime April 27, 2009 at 12:04 pm #

oi! I hope everythin goes well with your induction. I planned a very busy day to keep my mind off of being over due (a date with the husband for thai food, a day out visiting the sugar houses in my county… and I swear it was the fresh maple syrup that helped things along!).

I have several of the fold over skirts from summers past and I LOVE them. So much in fact that sometimes I forget that I have a skirt on.

Again, good luck and I hope for a speedy, healthy delivery.

  49. Kristen April 27, 2009 at 12:09 pm #

That outfit is super cute. I also wanted to wish you the best of luck tomorrow. I was 11 days past due and I asked to be induced. I guess our little ones just want(ed) to stay in their comfy wombs. Even though I was induced, my labor never really progressed. Twenty-four hours after I was admitted to the hospital, I had a c-section. It was wonderful. I had absolutely no pain and I finally got to see my beautiful daughter. It will be one of the best moments of your life!

  50. JLR April 27, 2009 at 12:17 pm #

Much luck for a speedy and safe delivery – I cannot wait to see the new little one here!
