An Update on the Kitchen Trim

The baseboards are finished. The doorways are 85% there. I still have to prime and paint two windows and five doors. And maybe paint the walls too, though I’m liking the yellow more against the white than I did before.

So yes, progress has been made, albeit very slowly. My model below is the reason…

I spent the entire weekend staying up at night reading your wonderful blog…It’s truly an inspiration!!..Your skills are awesome!!…Although I’m in an apt with my three lovelies I have the tendency to get bored of where I’m at but I’ve decided to do some DIY projects this year and after reading your blog, I’m hoping I can “Make it Lovely” so that when I do get a house I’ll eventually be an expert like you!

P.S. Ms. Eleanor is a beauty!

Love the yellow. That can be a hard color to get right. And your photograph here is striking. The contrast really draws my attention to your perfect little model.

Sometimes you just gotta get a sitter to be productive…I feel ya’!

And the older they get, you’d think that it would be easier, but it doesn’t!

I love your daughter’s face, she manages to get such an intense, serious look for someone so tiny! Like she really has a lot of thoughts going on in that adorable little head of hers. It’s wonderful to see her grow through your blog and photos, thank you so much for sharing with us all!

Loving what I can see of the new trim. I really love white trim, I have it everywhere in my house. I always think it’s so crisp and beautiful. Can’t wait to see it finished. :-)

The baseboards look wonderful! I’ve been having trouble with mine. I sanded them a bit, then added a coat of oil-based white paint. Unfortunately, something is happening and I’m getting unevenness and some minor bubbles here and there.

Did you use water-based paint or oil-based? How many coats?

I used latex. One coat of primer, two coats of paint.

I can relate to the slow nature of things…I have a six-month-old, and I feel he causes me to have to at least triple the amount of time it takes to complete a project.

But, the important thing is..you are getting things done! Woohoo!

I love your baseboard choice. Looks beautiful!

The baseboards look great! What kind of paint are you using? How many coats of primer and paint did it take to cover the wood? I’m gearing up to do the same in our house, so it’s always nice to hear what works for people.

You’re daughter is so adorable, I wish I was that flexible!

Wow, nice job on the trim! Did it take a lot of sanding? And, you’re right, the yellow looks like a different yellow now, very fresh. That your little model is adorable goes without saying…

I didn’t sand at all. We washed the baseboards and then used a good primer that adheres to glossy surfaces.

What great colours. Painting with a baby is a killer, though. We painted our nursery, office, kitchen and living room with our baby daughter – about 8 months old, crawling, and not into taking long naps. It was challenging but well worth it. Good luck!

Did I miss the grand reveal for the painting of the baseboards and architraves? I couldn’t see the painted windows etc in your recent posts. Looking forward to seeing the end results as I am debating whether to paint the wooden window frames and doors in our house!
