MiY 4e: Subdued

We’ve come to the last look in this fourth edition of Making it Yours (MiY). This one may be my favorite, though it’s a toss-up because I really liked the first look as well.

MiY 4e: Subdued

The bed, sofa, lighting, and tables that we have followed throughout this edition are here again. Sheer shades instead of curtains, a black rug, and a creamy gray wall color help the room feel restful and modern. I’ve added ochre bedding (paired with white sheets) and a black bedspread, along with art that picks up on those colors. A green velvet pillow matches the sofa, and an interesting vase (that I found via Design*Sponge) would be beautiful in this room.

You can go back and see each previous design in more detail: 4a: Striking Stripes and Polka Dots, 4b: Feminine Moorish, 4c: Fresh Picked, and 4d: Seaside Fair.

Making it Yours 4: Making the Bed(room)

This was an interesting challenge because normally I only use one piece of furniture for my MiY series. The four items in this edition were not inexpensive, but I wanted to show that you can invest in a quality base while allowing for different styles with easy changes. What do you think? Did you have a favorite out of the five designs?

The Lily Mirror is Here

It was a Valentine’s Day gift, which is funny because we never celebrate the holiday. I mentioned to Brandon that I had a little gift for him (it was a Darth Vader flash drive), and I guess he felt like he should reciprocate. I wasn’t expecting anything, and I was completely surprised when the mirror I wanted for my office arrived! (Brandon totally wins.)

Lily Mirror in my Office

My office is coming along so nicely. I just need my crazy rug so that I can pick a new wall color, and then I want to paint the trim too.

Moroccan Oil

I am not loyal to a shampoo. I don’t care whether my conditioner costs $4 or $40. But this? It’s my hair’s secret weapon.

Moroccan Oil

I have flat, straight hair that needs to be washed every day to look clean. Susan at Sparrow recommended it, and while I wasn’t too sure (oil?), I tried it. It’s amazing. I know I don’t talk about beauty products on the blog, but I must extol the virtues of Moroccan Oil. It has left my hair looking so healthy, and not greasy at all. Have any of you tried it? I bet it would be fantastic for curly hair.

MiY 4d: Seaside Fair

Scallops and dots and ferris wheels, oh my!

As in the first three looks in this edition of Making it Yours (MiY), the bed, tables, lighting, and seating remain the same. Even the reversible quilt and sheer linen curtains have made a reappearance, yet this room looks completely different from the last.

MiY 4d: Seaside Fair

That bold green color is the same one I used for the rug I painted on our front porch. It’s a little more vivid than I would usually recommend, but the fun wall color paired with embroidered scallop sheets and pom pom pillows would make for a pretty fun look. The round, graphic rug adds some zip, and the ferris wheel photo is perfect for this room.

There is just one more look to go!

The Pet Door

It took us three years and the impetus of having a baby, but we’ve finally installed a pet door.

Pet Door

The kitchen door leads to the basement, which we’ve always left ajar for the cats. We had thought about cutting a hole when we initially moved in, but we were hesitant because we didn’t want to mar a 100 year old door. Recently though, I’ve become less afraid of ‘ruining’ our house in the pursuit of making it work for our family. Paint the woodwork? Yes, please. Cut a hole in the door? Don’t mind if I do.

And speaking of painting the woodwork, we’re getting there. All of the baseboards and doorways are done, one of the windows and one of the doors have been finished, and we still have one window and three doors to go.
