Our Roof is Leaking

It has been incredibly windy in the windy city lately, and a huge portion of our roof has flapped up.

We Need a New Roof

Wednesday night as I was getting into bed, I noticed that the bed was wet. At first I thought one of the cats had peed on the bed and I was pretty upset. Brandon thought the area was too large to be from the cats, and when he looked up he noticed that water had streaked the light fixture. Then I noticed the trail of bubbling paint along the ceiling and the four inches of water inside the globe of the light fixture (which no longer works, by the way). Great. Our roof is leaking.

We called a few roofers out to assess the damage, and it looks like we’ll be replacing the entire flat roof on our home’s aging addition. The wood beneath the shingles is in poor condition, so that will need to be replaced as well.

While we’re at it, we’ll be switching our dark, energy-absorbing roof to a cool, heat-reflecting, more earth-friendly white roof. Honestly, I’m not crazy about the look of a white roof. That portion of the roof is difficult to see from most angles though, and it seems that a “cool roof” is the responsible thing to do. Lemonade from lemons, eh?

Skinny jeans! I don’t typically wear jeans, but after Abbey mentioned how flattering these were, I had to go try them on. Let me tell you, she was right. I’d wear them with shiny, art school girl shoes and a pretty tunic. My bag would have a paint drip pouch inside (just because it’s fun and I love it), and then I’d wear simple earrings and a couple of stacking arrow rings to finish off the look.

How do you style your jeans? I know how to rock a dress, but this is a new area for me.

Outdoor Dining Chair Options

Now that the weather has (mostly) warmed up, I’m eager to get to work outside. I’m still looking for a matching set of dining chairs for the backyard. I would love to own any of these, but buying eight of them would be pretty pricey:

Here’s what we’ll likely end up with:

I haven’t sat in the Blankö chair (my IKEA doesn’t have it yet), but Brandon and I both like the simple lines of it. I’ve considered the Urban chair before, but I always think it looks a little funny in person. Maybe out of the store and in the context of my garden it would look more stylish? They look sharp in this photo that ran in Blueprint:

Which chair would you choose?

Thirty Two Cents Worth of Thanksgiving Decorations

I happened to walk by a store as they were five minutes away from closing up for good. The cashiers were shouting out “everything is under $1!”, so I stopped in to check out the remaining merchandise.

Odd Thanksgiving Birds

These birds may be a little odd, but they’ll be perfect as Thanksgiving decorations. At ten cents each (for a total of $0.32 after tax), I figured I may as well grab them. They would have been $93 had they been full price. Isn’t that crazy?

They’re way too weird to have paid full price for them.

Honor Roll

Sometimes I come across something so cute/sweet/charming/funny/pretty/inspiring/lovely that I just want to share it with you. These are the things that have made my honor roll.
