Kia ora Nicole, I have a tattoo behind my right ear and really it just felt like a mild scratch, seriously my cat has done more damage with his claws! mind you that particular one was number four for me + not to mention it is a discreet location

Just so you know- i have a tattoo behind both ears. I don’t know how high your pain tolerance is, but mine didn’t hurt at all. You can hear the needle ripping skin though – and it takes a second to get used to.

Other than that – it’s served as a wonderful place for my matching owls. <3

I think I can handle that. When I was 15, I pierced the cartilage of my ear. With an earring, not even a needle. It was stupid, but could hear the damn thing going through layer by layer.

I’ve been thinking about and looking at tattoos all day long, so this just caps it all off before I go to bed. And I was almost thinking this would be an ideal spot until I read Robyn’s comment about the sound. I don’t think I could handle that, ha. I got my second tattoo, of Conan O’Brien, in January, and am hoping to get my third, a Beatles one, before the year is out. And I’m already thinking of several other things I want, but I haven’t quite decided if a lot of tattoos is “me” or not.

I have a tattoo in that very spot, mine’s a little owl (wt a coincidence, I just read Robyn’s comment, but mine’s just one). You can’t feel a thing on the bony part, but if it gets to squishier parts further down your neck it gets painful. I didn’t hear skin ripping, though, the machine itself was buzzing way too loud right in my ear to notice much else. I say the only real downside is you never get to look at your own lovely tattoo.

Oh that set of mismatched yet matching chairs has made my day! Almost makes me want to throw away my boring-all-exactly-the-same dining chairs and start again. Love. Love. Love.

I have a tattoo there and its actually not that painful. It is the only tattoo that I have so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I don’t have a very high pain tolerance, and it wasn’t bad, so yeah.

I have a tattoo in that exact spot! It started to really hurt at the top of the tattoo since it was right on the bone of my head. But the rest was very tolerable. Plus, a tattoo back there can’t really be that big so even if it is painful, it won’t last long. My tattoo was done in under 10 minutes. It was loud, like others said. But it was more of extreme vibrating than anything else. I definitely didn’t hear skin ripping. And I LOVE the spot. It’s like a little surprise when people see it.

Some chairs are not candidates for slipcovers. Why don’t you ask a reader in your area to help you? You can trade upholstery for Pink and Brown items or for ads for their work. Everything isn’t Do it yourself, especially if you don’t know what you are doing. You could also trade design services with the upholster. Some companies have no idea what fabrics to use on their sample pieces.Or you can have a consultation night at the upholsterers. People can bring in their pieces and you can help them select the fabrics. Then they leave them with the upholster and he or she does yours for free. I like that idea. You could do it every few months. No more monthly pictures of the baby?

      That’s an idea to consider…

And I’m still photographing Eleanor monthly until she’s two. Her 15 month photo is coming up!

A few years ago I tried so hard to get a calla lily tattoo behind my ear. It was impossible to find a legitimate tattoo shop (in New Orleans) that would do it. They all said ‘we won’t do it unless you have more tattoos than your artist’ : / Well it didn’t happen. I will tell you from experience that one of the absolute WORST spots to get one is your ribs.

    Love these lists!
Would love to see an outfit you’ve drawn! Did you do sketches of things you wore?

Yep. I sketched things I wore, but also things I wanted. It was sort of my way of window shopping (now I just create mood boards for the same purpose)!

I too have a tattoo behind my ear (as well as one on my foot, and both ribs)… I was still terrified but it doesn’t hurt at all. My tattoo artist explained that there are no nerve endings there, so it’s really just loud. And, to disagree with liz, the foot was the worst, and the closer it is to the toes, the more it hurts. Liz, if you’re ever in Austin, TX, check out Jon at True Blue Tattoo.

I want a pink fridge to go in my pink and red mismatched kitchen! And I’ve coveted a tattoo behing my ear. I already have six so don’t think the pain would be too bad. Promised my sis that if she goes before me I’ll have ‘I hear that, sista!’ tattooed behind my ear!! Actually, I might just get it done!!

Oh, those chairs are fantastic! Did you notice the picture that followed, with the yard sticks? Such a fun idea, and I think it was you mil who had a large collection of yard sticks, if I remember right…

Why thanks for sharing! In particular I enjoyed the matching mismatched chairs and the reupholstered desk chair. I am working on one myself but I would adore a tutorial complete with pics if you do it. I am a little worried about the cording bit of the project.
Oh and I am definitely considering the back of the ear tattoo (if I ever get the nerve. It is a spot i han’t even thought of!

Are you sure you want to consider a tattoo in such a visible place? I have one on my back that I just hate. I absolutely regret getting a tattoo. Perhaps I am just more conservative, but why not keep expressing your individuality through your personal style (which can evolvle). A tattoo is so permanent, and I truly think they look terrible on older people (I am 35). I also would hate if my daughter got a tattoo. Be an individual and say no to the permanent ink.

My tattoo is behind the left ear. It’s not a visible place at all since my hair covers it all the time (except when wind blows of course).
Wasn’t painful, not at all! And over in under 10 minutes, too!

Behind the ear tattoos are super pretty. I work in in a tattoo studio, just a little tip if you are considering getting one in that spot, keep it more on the simple side of things. Because the skin there is a little different the tattoo may age a little quicker than elsewhere on the body. Gosh that pink fridge is gorgeous :)

The tattoo behind the ear is fine, as long as you don’t go lower, and get it behind your jawline. That one killed…:)

I have two tattoos – and am planning two others – but my cardinal rule is that they -must- be in locations that are concealable during the workday. There’s still too much of a stigma associated with tattoos, especially those on the neck or face. (Of course, this probably varies by locale too – I’m in the “bible belt” so that likely contributes to the conservative attitudes that are the norm here.)

All that said, behind the ear -is- a relatively discreet location, especially for women!
