I do very much like this Jenny Lind bed.
It’s funny… I first blogged about Jenny Lind style beds a year and a half ago, after choosing Eleanor’s crib. And now without me bringing it up again, a few people are recommending this bed in the comments of my last post.

I’m just too parsimonious to buy one. (That sounds better than cheap, right?) Maybe I should just spring for one instead of trying to go with one of these? The other options are good too though, and more affordable.
I’m not good at making decisions lately. Can I just blame it on the whole ‘being seven months pregnant’ thing?

I’ve had my eye on one of these beds for my daugther, too. And I’m willing to admit I am TOO CHEAP to buy the one from Land of Nod. I did find one at Sears. Not quite as cute and would need to be painted but it’s $160 and I think I could stomach that!

Yeah, but it only has one review and it’s a pretty bad one. Plus shipping is $90, and then it needs rails and slats, plus painting… at that point it might be better to just go with the more expensive one!
Love love love this option, but mostly because it looks almost exactly like the antique bed frame I had growing up at my mom’s house. Full sized bed, which is what I switched to right out of a crib. Shhhhh, don’t tell her, but eventually I plan on taking it to my house and painting it…
We have a bed just like that…though it is brown. It was my mom’s while she was growing up. Have you tried finding one thrift?
Yes, but without much luck. I’ve been looking on Craigslist and eBay, but only finding damaged or odd-sized options.

Have you checked Jubilee? We got a lovely headboard there for our daughter’s room, not as detailed as yours but metal so the bits won’t break off. I’m with you on the too cheap, its so hard to know who they’ll be as they get older and what might happen to stuff (and I like to rearrange things all the time). We did spring for a steel room and board bed for our son’s room though, just because it seemed like it might last through his, hmmm, energy :)
Wowee – that is one gorgeous bed! Definitely a splurge, but I’m sure it would be a treasured piece that would be in the family for a loooong time.
Oh, I vote for this style. Don’t give up on Craigslist…I found one for my guest room a few blocks away from me and for a STEAL.
This is definitely a style that will grow with Eleanor–and, as much as I love the wicker headboard, the Jenny Lind won’t be tempting to little-girl curiosities like swirls and wrapped wicker.
If you like this style you can get one at Kmart for like 150. It’d need a coat of paint but it’s worth it in my opinion.

Those are toddler beds though.
My vote is for the Jenny Lind. It’s very possible that Eleanor will sleep on this until she goes to college and while I love IKEA, I don’t think most of their stuff is made to last.
I know it’s pricey, but truly, it’s an investment piece.
I just wish my in-laws had stopped to think for a minute before they bought the ugly 80′s bedroom set my husband used as a child/teen. Especially as it’s now sitting in our guest room and my husband won’t let me paint it!
I love the Jenny Lind bed. I kept my little Jenny Lind twin bed all the way up until I left for college. It fit in an adorable little nook in my room, so it was perfect. A nice feature about this vs. the headboards is that it doesn’t need to be anchored on a wall, so it opens up more possibilities for rearranging the room. (I did this a lot too!)
I really do think the design is timeless and perfect for a little girl. Our crib converts into a twin bed but now I’m thinking I’ll go “borrow” my set from my parent’s house when our little one transitions so her room doesn’t look so modern.
I think this one is great! The other ones seem like things would get easily caught in them (hair, feet, clothes, etc)- the rounded edges on this one seems a little more kid friendly- and will stand the test of time with whatever decorating scheme you go with. I’m going to be looking for a toddler bed soon for our son, but with the way he climbs up things and gets into mischief, I kinda hope he stays in his crib til he’s 4 :) heehee.
I voted for the swirly bed yesterday, but I didn’t realize this was an option and this one wins my vote. I love this bed!
My family also used Jenny Lind cribs, and I just did a quick search on Amazon and it turned up this toddler bed. Not sure what color you’re going for, but the price seems very reasonable (disclaimer: I didn’t really review it closely).

Both of my children slept better on a real mattress versus a toddler bed. That may be something to consider. I really like the swirly headboard that you already own. It would look great painted a bright color. You can always change later if your family grows and you have two children sharing a room.
I do love that Jenny Lind bed, but you’re right, its expensive. I was going to suggest craigslist, those beds come up often around here, but I see you’ve already tried that.
I like Ikea’s style, I just think their quality is so crappy over the long haul. I look at it this way: pay $$$ up front for a good piece you really like, or the same amount of money over a few years for multiple cheaper but lesser quality pieces you don’t like as much. The Jenny Lind bed is an investment piece, you’d have that for a long time. The Minnen bed is cheaper but will last a few years, tops. Then you’ve put out about $200 for a frame that you will replace for a different $200 (or more) frame in a few years. Spend $400 up front for a good frame, or $400 over the next five years for two less-than-great frames.
Or stick with the already-sunk-cost peacock frame :-) Its really quite nice. :-)
I would just use the bed you already have coming. It’s beautiful, and it’s recycled. You’ll eventually have to fit a twin bed in that room anyway.

I’ve long been a fan of your blog and couldn’t get yesterday’s bed post out of my mind… I love love the peacock wicker. It is just SO unique. I also totally get the ease, price and functionality of the Ikea. My problem with that it it lacks the UMPH and she will very soon outgrow… I think the Jenny Lund is the way to go FOR sure- classic, but so, so cool. I found a very similar spool bed at our church auction a few years back for $7!! Yes, SEVEN. My daughter has this exact bed (but in the full version so that we never have to get a new one) and I love it! It looks adorable in her room, and she is so proud of her big girl bed.

I would get it for Miss O, but she has her great grandma’s four poster twin bed which just seems like it was made for her ;)

Another point to consider: if you do end up with two children in one room, a Jenny Lind will be much easier to match in the future. Plus, how adorable (and timeless!) are two twins of this style in a room? My all-time fave!
Hey guys, from the post it seems as though Nicole wants a twin Jenny Lind bed, not a toddler bed. The toddler beds are cheaper, but I dont think that’s what she’s looking for. We’ll keep our eyes out for a twin :)
That is a really cute bed. However, I would buy one the less expensive options and spring on the bedding instead. Just sayin.
I vote for the Jenny Lind! I think Eleanor would love it so much longer and beyond the IKEA bed. And if she wants for another style, voila! Peacock! You’re all set!
My vote is for the Jenny Lind. She could sleep on that until she moves out, painting it or changing it with her own growing tastes. I say go for it. Its gorgeous.

I would invest in the bed and mattress and leave other purchases for later. And do you really want to do any DIY things right now? OR within the next couple of month with another little one on the way?
This bed looks amazing, I might steal this idea when the time come for me to decorate my daughter’s room.

I was up all night thinking about your last post! I have a little girl, Abby-Sue who is a tiny bit older than Eleanor and we also have a boy due in the spring and are facing the same problems of space and bed furniture. I even went to Ikea today to look at that option but realized after the bed and the mattress were purchased, I could probably get another nice bed with all the money going into the specialty mattress. The problem really is the mattress… it is really lumpy and icky and does not look like a good investment. I adore the Jenny Lind option and think it would look smashing with the crib you already have! That is my vote!
If you can make up your mind by the end of today, Land of Nod is offering 15% off on their entire site. I vote for skipping the toddler bed and going straight for a twin. That’s what we did for our 5 year old daughter and expect her to use her bed (pbkids) until she decides to move out someday.

I just went through this situation myself. I have a 4 year old and a 2-1/2 year old sharing the same room. A boy and a girl, to make things a little more difficult. I got my youngest out of the crib, into the toddler bed, and then into the twin bed all within a few months. I knew I wanted two twin beds in there as I wasn’t going to buy another toddler bed. Seemed like a waste of $. I looked at the Jenny Lind bed frame, very cute, but anything with a footboard is going to take up valuable real estate. Because I couldn’t decide on headboards, I went ahead and got the twin mattresses/frames in the room, found the right bedding for a boy and a girl, painted and now I just need to get the headboards. I was thinking of the Nurseryworks upholstered headboards. I think they are called Vale. Nice and soft to lean against and read books. To your issue: I think the wicker one will get ruined, the Ikea one she might outgrow, and the Jenny Lind …well, the only thing with that one is the footboard, so if space isn’t an issue with you as it was with me, then GO FOR IT!
Oh I love this one!! I think it will really have a lot of life in it and could be used for years (if not generations) to come. I think you will be sad not being able to sit comfortably on the edge of the bed with the Ikea one.

I do like the Jenny Lind bed, but I think your other two options are much, much cuter. And the wicker headboard has the advantage of being more unique, as well as darling. Good luck as you decide!
this bed is breathtakingly gorgeous! it definitely gets my vote over the other two, and seems like it would be easy to style the same way as the ikea bed. plus it has sturdy give-to-your-daughter-for-her-own-children potential, unlike anything ikea has ever dreamed of. you could always paint the wicker headboard a bright color and turn it into wall art! if price is an issue, could you just prune the budget in other areas to make room?
I had a Jenny Lind-style bed when I was Eleanor’s age. I’m now 40. I still have the bed. It’s been my bed, a day bed, a sofa, a guest bed, my niece’s bed and now a guest bed in her room. Its timeless, has been painted a jillion different colours and it keeps on ticking. Admittedly I didn’t buy it, my mother did. But worth every penny.

I love the IKEA beds in the inspiration photo. Adjustable is handy, but what do you do for bedding? flat sheets instead of fitted I guess… Are the mattresses adjustable too? Or do you have to buy different sized mattresses when you want to change the size of the bed?
This is my favorite by far! It is such a beautiful bed. The pillows on this bed are so lovely.

Oh I promise you will love the Jenny Lind bed. I bought it for my son and it looks great in his room with his train comforter. My husband was apprehensive about getting white for a boy, but now agrees that it looks great. I have the room painted a sage green. The quality is fantastic and I know will be in our family for many years to come. I agonized over this purchase for a long time ( because I had to have it shipped to Hawaii), but I know I made the right decision. He went straight from his Jenny line crib to his jenny Lind bed. I hope this helps you a bit! Land of nod sells great products. Oh and we bought one side rail and have the other side avaunt the wall ( really worth it).

the Jenny Lind bed is by far and away my favorite option! and if you need two in the same room later on then two Jenny Linds side by side is the only thing better than just one.
