Honor Roll

Sometimes I come across something so cute/sweet/charming/funny/pretty/inspiring/lovely that I just want to share it with you. These are the things that have made my honor roll.

I also write for Babble’s Family Style blog. Here’s what I’ve been sharing there…

Eloquent Pro Font

The swashes! The contrast between thick and thin! Good golly, that’s a sexy typeface.

I’d love to see this as the star of a blog design. I miss doing design work for people and sometimes I think I would like to just make blog templates for fun. For fun! I have no idea of what a good time is, you guys!

Basement Studio Progress

I’ve made more progress on the basement studio!

I picked up another Expedit (I call them my “cubes”), and a couple of freestanding kitchen counters from IKEA’s Värde line. I’ve always wanted the one with all of the drawers, so I’m glad that I finally have space for it. All of my supplies will go in the drawers, and my products will be lined up on the shelving.

I like to designate a separate center for shipping. Here’s what it looked like in the previous studio space:

I see those pictures and I think “ugh, that looks so messy and disorganized!” But, um, here’s what the new shipping center looks like right now:

Yeah, I have just a wee bit of work to do there. I’m glad to have closed storage now though — that will go a long way in making it look more neat.

The main layout is setup and the big furniture pieces are in place, so I’m going to have to get down there and start organizing. I’m wondering about the windows now. I love playing with color and pattern in window curtains, but the basement windows don’t really call for window treatments. There is a surprising amount of natural light in the basement, and I want to preserve as much of that light as possible. So no curtains? Or yes, but with them mounted extra wide and open all the way? The windows are high and short too, so that may be another reason to eschew treatments.

Beaded Garland Wall Art DIY

Here’s an easy way to fill up a large wall. A few people asked about the beaded wall art from a photo of my old apartment in yesterday’s post, so I thought I’d share the instructions with you. It’s an easy craft project!

You’ll need many strands of beaded garland (I used 18), an inexpensive café rod, and a little bit of paint and a paintbrush.

Take the café curtain rod and paint it so that it blends in with your wall color. You can prime it first if you’re worried about the paint sticking, but this is not a heavy duty piece so it should be fine without primer. String the garland on the curtain rod, attach the brackets to the wall, and hang your creation. Easy!

Jayne Glazed Ceramic Table Lamp

I was doing some research for a roundup over at Babble (15 of my favorite colorful and modern lamps!), when I came across the Jayne Ceramic Lamp. I’ve had this lamp in brown since 2006, and I was so excited to see that it’s still available. Here it is in our old apartment:

And here it is in the library, shortly after we moved in to this house:

And it’s still in the library now:

I bought mine at CB2 all those years ago, but the lamp is now available right here.
