MiY 7a: Boy’s Room
In this edition of Making it Yours, we’ll be following the Window Daybed as it shows up throughout a young boy’s life, starting in his childhood bedroom.
Here it is as a little boy’s brand-new bed, complete with cute monster bedding! A bright blue nightstand next to the bed is a good place to store books, and a dresser with wooden sides has gotten a coat of citron paint for more color in the room. The striped rug adds a nice graphic pattern to the room, and a nice clear blue looks great on the walls. The vintage kid’s chair is mid-century modern and the light is new with seventies style, but they work together well and also with all of the new pieces in the room. An alphabet and guitar print adorn the walls, and a really awesome doll house works in the room for a boy just as well as it would for a girl.
The room is for a little boy, but nothing feels too twee or cutesy about it. Next we’ll see the daybed make an appearance in the boy’s teenage bedroom! A lot of the same elements will remain, but the room will grow up a bit as our young boy gets older.

Making it Yours 7: Window Daybed
It’s been far too long since the last Making it Yours (MiY) series! I’m back at it, this time with the Window Daybed.
MiY is all about the way a piece of furniture can see you through several rooms and several phases of your life. It’s not just about the furniture, it’s about the way furniture can fit into our lives and become something more, something versatile, even something sentimental.
Check in later today to see the daybed get its start in a bedroom for a young boy.
Honor Roll

- Mini ruffled cakes (out of cupcakes)? Yep, they’re as adorable as they sound.
- All those books! All those ribbons! Total bookshelf porn.
- The little details make this vintage sewing party especially delightful. (via Heather Bailey)
- Confirmed: pink is pretty.
- Make a laurel wreath out of spoons!
- How to organize a desk with no drawers.

I also write for Babble’s Family Style blog. Here’s what I’ve been sharing there…
- This iPad book, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, is amazing. The story is really sweet too (it makes me a little weepy). Take a look at out how they made it.
- The new IKEA catalog is out! Browse the whole thing and see the small-space inspiration that went into it.
- Personalized plates for kids. (The milk and cookies one is my favorite.)
- Colin Meloy (of the Decemberists) and his wife, illustrator Carson Ellis, have teamed up on a chapter book: Wildwood.
- I think Eleanor would love wearing these! Think I should get them for her?
