Selby Leather Sofa

Well, that’s a handsome sofa.

I like leather for chairs, but I’m not sure how I feel about it for something as large as a sofa. Sometimes I think it’s a bit too much; Too opulent and too animal. But on that sofa, I like it. And I hear it’s a good choice for families with kids.

Holly Becker’s Decorate Book Tour

The Decorate book tour brought Holly Becker to Anthropologie in Chicago last night. I had interviewed Holly about her book a couple of weeks ago, and I was looking forward to meeting her.

She spoke about creating mood boards, offering tips for creating them and several compelling reasons to do so.

Holly was one of my earliest blogging friends and supporters, so it was a real pleasure to finally meet her!

I spoke briefly after Holly about the way that I use and create digital mood boards. I was also the Vanna to Holly’s Pat Sajak during the mood board portion. It was fun, and an honor to be a part of her book tour.

After we spoke, Holly invited the audience to create their own mood board using fabric swatches, wallpaper samples, buttons, images from magazines, and other lovely things.

Holly graciously signed copies of Decorate after the presentation was over, and then a small group of us went out for dinner in my fair Chicago.

Holly is as smart and sweet as I had imagined, and I’m happy to see so much success coming her way. Decorate is in its third printing already! If you haven’t yet picked up your copy, please do. It’s an amazing book by a dear friend.

IKEA Share Space

Have you seen IKEA’s new Share Space site? I always think it’s fun to see how real people take things and use them in their own homes, and this new site is dedicated to that idea.

IKEA is a sponsor of Making it Lovely, but I’ve always had a lot of love for them. Brandon and I redid our kitchen with IKEA cabinets shortly after we moved into our house, so I’ve added a few of my photos on Share Space. The more people add, the more fun the site will be to browse and search.

IKEA has also launched their first US blog, Design by IKEA, to go along with the site. Good news for those of us that were previously getting our IKEA fix from their Swedish blog!

The Perfect Mix of Masculine and Feminine

This feels so right for fall, for contrasting with dresses and ladylike blouses. I’ve been wearing my watch a lot lately (it’s one of the watches shown), and I think I’m going to pick up a pair of black heels or wedges since I no longer have any black shoes. I’ve been carrying a diaper bag for the past two and a half years and I’ll need it for a while still, but I’ve been eying some of these brown leather lovelies.

Which shoes, watch, and bag would you choose? I’m pretty into all of these this time around, but I’ll show you my choice for each below.

Honor Roll

Sometimes I come across something so cute/sweet/charming/funny/pretty/inspiring/lovely that I just want to share it with you. These are the things that have made my honor roll.

Attempting hard boiled eggs again today. I tried a few days ago, felt like I was overcooking them, but I definitely was not. #notagoodcook
