Cocktail Party

The holiday season is upon us, and with it, holiday parties. Do you have many occasions to dress up? I don’t usually, but this year is shaping up a little differently. Plus there are the usual family functions, like Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas (I like the idea of wearing a fancy dress, but toning it down a little).

What would you pull together for a fun cocktail party? I always love seeing how everyone pairs things differently. And as always, I’ll show you which ones I’d pick below.

  1. Nina Sequin Dress
  2. Erin Mary Jane Blush Patent Pumps *
  3. Resin Colorblock Necklace *
  4. Pleated Dress *
  5. Druzy Pie Drops
  6. Opaque Tights *
  7. Gracia Dress
  8. Glitter Court Shoes
  9. Pearl Scallop Bib Necklace
  10. Kathryn Flats *
  11. Martha Bracelet
  12. Mint Julep Ring
  13. Malachy Ballet Flats
  14. Lace and Light Dress

+   Metallic Shimmer Sweater Jacket *

Oh I would love that too. BTW, I bought two of those Old Navy shirts that you suggested for nursing moms and I wish I had 10 of them.

I would choose 4, 12 and 13. Green pleated dress with Mint Julep Ring and those adorable metallic flats.

I love 6, with the shoes the model has on, and either 5 or 11 as jewelry. (5 if hair up, 11 if hair down).

I also think 2, 7 and 9 would be cool. Maybe a less patent leather shoe though here.

    I second the request for a nursing-friendly edition! :) Though if I could, I would go with 2, 3, & 7. I also like the green dress a lot.

    7, 10/13, 11, 5

I love the shape of the red dress very much. If it were in black I’d go with the gold shoes. Though gold and red works too, I think the black shoes would look better with it.

The red dress is on the pricy side for me, but it is so, so pretty.

Will you write up something about the logistics of this look? I have a terrible time wearing dresses / skirts with tights. They always ride up and pull and static cling….. A friend told me to try hairspray and one other said maybe a slip? I see that you wear dresses and tights a lot – you must have solved this problem :)

      Kim,

I wear slips under dresses and it really works well for me. It also helps provide a smoother look. I like Vanity Fair brand; good quality and not too expensive.
      Hope that helps!

THANK YOU! I’m going to buy one tomorrow! Also, I almost stopped a woman on the subway to ask her this question last night. But it was rush hour and crowded and I didn’t want to seem like a crazy person asking personal questions!

Kim, I haven’t actually had too many problems. I am a fan of slips too, though I’ve slacked on wearing them lately.

      Kim,

I live in a very dry (read: static-y) climate and swear by this Static Guard spray in the wintertime: http://www.amazon.com/Static-Guard-Cling-Spray-Fresh/dp/B0013IRBG4. Cheap, easy (point the nozzle up your skirt and spray…kind of shocking, but not in a bad way), totally does the trick. Also lets dresses hang a little better, to boot.

I’d go with 7, 5, and 8. The red dress is beautiful. And the silver sparkly accents would be perfect and not too overwhelming since I’d have the earrings and the shoes and nothing else.

    4, 5, & 13. I think that’s probably really casual looking, but I love those gold flats.

    2, 9, and 4

    I would choose 4 + 5 + 6 + 8

    Or possibly 2 + 7 + 9, with black tights

Nicole, have you ever come across bright or patterned maternity tights? I’m dying for some but all I ever seem to find are basic black. Thigh highs are out for me.

I love the sequin dress! I think it might be fun to pair it with the bright tights. I’d do the emerald ring and the black shoes to keep it simple. They are all beautiful though!

I would choose #1, 2, and 6 and skip the jewlery since the bright opaque tights and sparkly dress would be eye candy enough! Love it.
