Making it Yours (MiY)

Making it Yours 8A: Leather Chesterfield

Here is the first look in the eighth edition of Making it Yours. I like to imagine a story arc for each step in the series…

Tom is an English lit professor in his early forties who has put a lot of thought into his home. He loves his living room, but his boyfriend, a vegan, is moving in. Thus the leather has to go! (The brindle, too, but he’s moving that to his office.) Tom’s younger sister, Frances, has been making do with a sad little sofa that has seen better days, so she’s the lucky recipient of the leather chesterfield. We’ll see it in her decidedly feminine space next.

Great room, love the pendant lamp. My man would almost definitely let me decorate his man-cave like this ;)

Tom must have a hell of a salary! And they say English degrees never pay…

    Also, that rug is amazing.

Best yet, no question. I was day dreaming about that pendant lamp just the other day. I can’t wait to see the Chesterfield in a feminine room!

I actuallly saw the pendant in person the day after I posted this, and it was even better than I had imagined. It made me want to find a space in my house to use it.

Love it! I’d love that sofa in a caramel colour or dark navy. Is that the same lamp you have?

Yes, that’s the one I have in the living room, by the floral chair.

To be honest, all I want to see now is the living room after the vegan boyfriend moves in- maybe you could do a split version and show this as well as the younger sisters living room:-)

Yay! Another MIY series. I love these.
I have to agree with Lena – now I really want to see the living room after the vegan boyfriend moves in. A spin-off would be great.
I also can’t wait to see the chesterfield in a feminine space.

I love this” Making it Yours” series that you do. They’re so creative-the storylines are intriquing, the rooms so great. Might you be able to parlay this idea into something bigger?? Like even another separate website? As if you don’t already have enough on your plate:). Anyway I just love them and can’t wait for the next installment.

I’m with Lena! My first thought was “Ooh! How nice! I wonder what new couch Tom and the vegan BF will get? Will the vegan BF bring one from his cute little apartment, or is he still holding on to that cast-off of his aunt’s that he’s had since college (much like Frances…)?”
    Do tell!

I love the way that you manage to imagine a space in a totally different way to how you yourself would decorate! I would never want a room like this – but it looks perfect for the character you’ve created.

My advice to Tom: dump the boyfriend and keep that gorgeous sofa! Men are a dime a dozen, but a sofa like that will last a lifetime. :)
