Flushmount Lighting Fixtures

This is my least favorite category of ceiling lighting, but often in our homes, flushmounts are the only option that will work. They’re useful when dealing with low ceilings, or for when you want something that doesn’t call too much attention to itself (but still looks good).

I’ve used the second light here at the top of the stairs leading to the second floor, and I’ve used the third light in my office and in Eleanor’s room. We have a light similar to number six outside the front door, and similar to number five in August’s room.

Considering that these are my least favorite types of lights, I sure have used them a lot. They’re useful, indeed.

  1. Julian Flushmount, $199

  2. Chase Ceiling Mount, $179

  3. Jonathan Adler Ceiling Light, $239

  4. Alabax, $135

  5. Jefferson, $140

  6. Gothic Lantern Flushmount, $249

    Those look great! I love #s 1, 5, and 6 especially. Can you tell I like vintage/traditional?

I’ve had my eye on the Jonathan Adler fixture for my hallway. However, I’m looking for a less expensive knockoff. Seen any?

If you are looking for something more budget friendly Lowes has some great ones we have used in odd spaces like hallways and staircases. All of these were under $40 if I remember correctly…

The second one looks JUST like the Jefferson you posted. We used is at the top and bottom of our stairs.

I have the Jonathan Adler fixture (#3) in my entry way in brass and love it… I also have two Jeffersons (#5) in my kitchen in polished nickel with the same shade, although I’m about to switch out the shades to ones with a few green stripes (Rejuvenation has something like 60 shade options and 15 or so finish options for the Jefferson). I’ve also used the Jefferson in previous houses. It’s such a great option for kitchens, especially if like me you’re not a fan of recessed lighting… each fixture has up to 300 watts (definitely put on a dimmer)!!

We have #3 in our kitchen and 4 quantities of #5 in our hallway. Saving up for a #2 for another hallway in our house. Love them all!

Thanks to you I have #2 in flush and semi-flush version in my kitchen. So classy and clean. I always appreciate your helpful inspiration!

If people are looking for a less expensive alternative to #4, check out this one from WestElm: http://www.westelm.com/products/contour-semi-flush-fixture-w688/?pkey=caffordable-lighting, a little different but at $69 you can’t beat it. I love this post, so refreshing to see other flush mount options besides the dreaded “boob” lamp.

We have a few #5s, and like others have said, we found it for much cheaper. Around $40, I think.

I’ve been in love with #3 for ages now. I really want to use on in our hallway. And I think #1 is quite pretty too for a more “elegant” look.

I hate the boob lamp! Thanks so much for this post! We are building a home soon, and I love your style. I appreciate the inspiration!

I need to find some attractive flush mount lights for our den, since we have low ceilings. Right now, we have hideous eighties track lighting. I am worried, though, that a lot of the more modern styles only have a couple of smaller bulbs. Our room is half below ground (in a split level), and we need some good light output. Have you had good luck with yours so far in that respect, Nicole?

That’s part of why I’ve used the Adler light (#3) so many times — it has three bulbs in it.

Perfect. I might follow suit, since you’ve had good luck with yours. Thanks!

Thanks for this post! I’ve used #5 in a guest bedroom and love it. I plan to use it in the kitchen, too, though I may go with striped glass. My biggest light dilemma is finding low-profile sconces to coordinate. I need some in the stairwell and also dormer ‘nooks’. Any chance you’ll do a sconce post???
