'D' for Dining

Country Fare Vintage Dishes

Today is our last day in the Wisconsin family cabin, and we’ll be driving back to Chicago soon. The surroundings are beautiful, but there is just as much enjoyment to be found in the home’s details. These are the plates we ate off of last night for dinner.

They remind me of Heath Ceramics’ original Coupe line from the 1940s. I’ve shown their studio mug before, and that heritage Coupe line has long been at the top of my wish list.

The collection of Country Fare dishes here at the cabin have been in my father-in-law’s family for decades. The line was discontinued in the mid-1950s, but they pop up on eBay and are available through Replacements.

Aren’t they beautiful? They’re so obviously handmade, heavy, with imperfect edges and subtle ridges where people smoothed the clay with their fingers.

They’re beautiful. They remind me of the stoneware from IKEA, because of the color mostly, but these are much more lovely. And Replacements! I’m sitting here just a few miles away from that as I work in Greensboro. :)

I love these style dishes. We have a new style that is very similar, and they are so sturdy and indestructible. Great dishware!

My mom has this set of dishes, Country Faire and seeing them here made me so happy ! The egg cups were so big we didn’t use them and, used to laugh when she did. The egg was dwarfed in them, lol. I always loved the aqua and brown color. Thank you for the post,it brought me straight back to many lovely meals with my family.
    Best,

How lovely to see some beautiful earthenwear for a change, something different from what’s in the shops …

Those are very beautiful. I love the curves on the cup, and how substantial everything looks.

I came across your blog just now while searching for a fun DIY project that I could work on with my girls at home. I love how you make every day things look lovely. :) I also blog about projects/recipes and home based hobbies that can be accomplished alongside kids.

They are beautiful! I love Heath ceramics and plan on getting a full set once the kids are out of the house. We still have our Denby Juice dishes we received for our wedding (12 years on Sunday!) but now that our 11 year old is in charge of unloading the dishwasher, we have a few less of the larger plates.

I do love a pretty egg cup so I may search for those on eBay and just hand wash!

Oh, just found one on eBay!! I’m buying it now since I’m the only one in the house who eats soft boiled eggs.

My sister-in-law inherited our grandma-in-law’s whole set of vintage Heath’s ceramic dishes – they are absolutely gorgeous.
