A Love Letter to Nate Silver

  • Let’s be real here; there was a 100% chance I’d like this nerdy fangirl letter to Nate Silver.

  • Andrea’s nursery for her baby is white plus neon. Super cute.

  • Anthony Bourdain is fighting mad.

  • There’s a new trend toward internet shaming. I’ve seen dog-shaming (innocent, sometimes funny) and husband-shaming (innocent, not funny), but then there are also sites outing racists and homophobes. I think the mentality is that it’s OK to bully the bullies, but I can’t say that I agree. What do you think?

One of the things – there are so many! – I love about your writing is that it is positive and kind. Things can get out of hand on the internet and I say ignore them, don’t go there. Who knows whether these things are even true or credible? Play nice I say.

Meh. Those things were written by those people… and that blog is holding people accountable for their own words. I’m all for accountability. If this helps at least one of those people rethink their privilege for a moment, then I support it. Also, there is a difference between ‘bullying’ and this. What those people are saying? They can CHANGE that. Bullying is when you are picking on someone for something beyond their ability to change. Like not being able to afford certain things, or not being the socially accepted ideal of ‘pretty’, or being autistic, gay, etc…. Being judgmental douchecanoes, though? Yeah, it’s changeable.

I love that nursery! Normally I am completely adverse to white walls, but I actually really, really like it.

I suppose you’re right, in that maybe “bullying” isn’t the right term, but there is an element to it, don’t you think? “Douchecanoes” however, is spot-on.

Andrea’s nursery is so quaint. I love the simplicity of the white and nice use of color here and there. Adding the bed for mommy is a great idea!

Absolutely not, I don’t think it’s ok to bully bullies. That’s the great hypocrisy of “tolerance”. We are tolerant of everything but an intolerant viewpoint we certainly shall not tolerate…and then it’s no holds barred. Seriously?

But really, on those other “shaming” sites, it’s the focus on the negative and belittlement that turns me off. I don’t visit sites that make fun of other things/people. People at Wal-Mart, poorly decorated cakes, bad Etsy listings, all of them. I don’t think it’s a healthy habit to engage in.

And there are so many of those sites out there. It’s sad.

I completely agree with your pov.
