Playing with Paint Colors

I write for My Colortopia, and they’ve just launched a new online tool: Color My Room. You can upload your own photo, or choose from one of theirs, and play around with paint colors.

My Colortopia Bedroom Palette

There are palettes, suggested by me and my fellow bloggers, but you can also create your own. It amused me to be getting color advice from myself (hello, self!), so of course I selected one of mine. I chose my neutral bedroom Glidden palette of Silver Birch, Wild Truffle, Shaded Ice, Ground Nutmeg, and Driftwood Gray, but decided to try them in a kitchen. Because I’m still stuck on a color for the kitchen.

Glidden Kitchen Colors

I chose one of their gallery photos instead of my own because it was the easier, faster option, and it was a good match for my white trim, cabinets, and tile. Let’s be honest — it was also a much prettier picture than mine. I like the lightness of Silver Birch, but Wild Truffle and Driftwood Gray are appealing too. I’m leaning toward a neutral paint color? What is this world coming to?

I have been sponsored by Glidden® brand paint to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Oohh toss up between wild truffle and driftwood grey. Both very pretty! Wild truffle is very rich, driftwood grey is lighter and so fresh. Can’t wait to see what you decide. =)

I love the wild truffle! It’s such a great contrast with the white, so even if it’s a neutral, it reads with more drama.

I like the Driftwood Gret best. I’m going to paint my kitchen this weekend, though I’m leaning towatd a grey-green BM color. So exciting!

Lots of votes for Driftwood Gray and Wild Truffle so far! I like those too, but I’m a little concerned that it’s too much gray, coming right off of my 50 shades of gray dining room. (OK, just two shades of gray, but doesn’t it sound saucier the other way?)

I love the color choices, but laughed when I saw your Barely Jade. We have that as our neutral in our living, sitting, dining rooms…it’s actually a very light grey blue. I love it but it’s never really “jade”. Of course, I love it, though! Good luck and Happy New Year!

I’m in the ‘Wild Truffle’ camp, but I like darker colors on my walls. That said, I think the Driftwood Gray isn’t too much gray, as there are more cabinets than wall space, so not much of the painted wall is seen.

I like the Driftwood Gray, but I’m also partial to Ground Nutmeg. Maybe I’m crazy?! (No one else has mentioned liking it yet.)

Ground Nutmeg is my favorite, too, but I think it’s because of the wood countertop in the kitchen pictured. In real life I’d probably go for the Wild Truffle. :)

Ah, I’m having exactly the same quandary over our kitchen. In your case, the room is lovely and bright so I’d opt for the driftwood grey or the wild truffle. Both are gorgeous.
Hope you are able to decide soon. Looking forward to seeing the pictures x

I did my kitchen in a color very similar to the wild truffle. While I love the color in the daylight, it definitely makes the kitchen seem very dim in the evenings. I would stress to NOT go with any shine. I used a satin paint because I don’t have a tile backsplash and I wanted it to be easy to clean. With the dark gray, it is ridiculously shiny. I will eventually repaint with a slightly lighter color in a more matte finish paint. The Driftwood Gray is lovely. PS, you can never have too much gray :)

I am so glad to have found your blog! The Wild Truffle is delish on your walls. I may have to try that one on my kitchen. Thanks again for being so lovely on your blog.

I really like the driftwood gray or a shade lighter of the wild truffle!!! Love the name “silver birch”, but it looks too similar to cabinet.

I was wondering if you or any of your design-minded readers could help me with color picking….I want to paint my bedroom a nice soft gray – I already have the gray in mind since my dining room is that color and it looks great against the dark trim. However, the previous owner painted the wood floor a navy blue and cream diamond pattern (our kitchen is black & white checkerboard so this person must have loved her checkerboard print). How can you pick a wall color when you have a very ahem, pronounced floor color?

    THANKS!!!

I like the wild truffle. Went to go buy some. They have a new wild truffle now and now it’s a dark brown. The old wild truffle is in the system though but no longer making it.:(
