August’s Second Birthday Party

August and Grandma Pat on His Second Birthday

A few weeks ago, we asked August for a little party planning input.

“What kind of birthday party do you want, August? Cars?”
“Uh huh.”
“Construction equipment?”
“UH HUH!”

Construction Birthday Party

So construction equipment it was.

Decorating the table involved gathering all of his construction toys and raiding Eleanor’s train table for Playmobil landscapes and trees. I thought it looked cute. Brandon took one look at the scene I was creating and said “it’s like the Lorax, told from the other side.” We had confirmation when Eleanor grabbed an excavator, made crashing noises, and started ripping out trees from the plastic earth.

Construction birthday party! Take that, nature!

The table decorations only lasted about five minutes anyway. Too tempting for little hands to resist.

Credit for the amazing cake goes to Brandon’s sister, Portia, and Reuter’s Bakery. I think the little “rocks” are cocoa pebbles, and the big rock formations were made of cake.

I love the idea of indulging little ones with their birthday plans! They always seem to come up with the coolest ideas. I think every birthday party I’ve been to in the past few years was Cars themed. A construction theme? Way cooler, in my humble opinion. :-)

Glad to see August had a good time, and man is he getting big fast!

Happy birthday, sweet boy! Everything looks so nice! We’re planning our 2nd bday party for our daughter, which will be at the strawberry farm. It’s at 10:30 am. I’d love to know what you serve your guests along with cake.

We made a simple salad, and ordered pizza (from Paisans, my favorite). We tend to keep the food simple for the kids’ parties, like pizza or assorted sub sandwiches.

Thank you for the reply! I’m thinking sandwiches/subs as well. :)

Brandon’s interpretation is awesome. And I’m so glad to have a pizza recommendation in the area, we have yet to find one we like and haven’t tried that one.

The cake and decorations are a delight, and the cake reminds me of one the head pastry chef made when I worked as a baker/mixer at Whole Foods. It was a jungle theme for a 1 year old’s birthday complete with pretzels and green frosting for trees.
