August's Room Parenting

Diaper Storage in the Nursery

We’re starting to talk up the whole “big boy” thing with August, about how he’s going to start sleeping in a bed, and that soon he won’t need diapers. He was pretty adamant for a long time about his morning bottle of milk too until we somehow lost his favorite bottle, and that was the end of that. He’s in that transitional stage between toddler and little kid, but for a while longer, he’s still sleeping in a crib and wearing diapers.

I showed his room not too long ago, when I took the doors off of one of the storage units in the space to convert it to a bookshelf. Here it is again, with even more books on the shelves. (Like toys, they seem to multiply.)

August's Room

We don’t need as much storage for baby gear now that August is older, but the remaining side with doors still holds essentials, like face and body lotion and healing balm. All of the diapers and wipes are in there too, along with refills for our diaper pail, tissues, and stacks of no-longer-needed burp cloths.

Lotion, Wipes, and Diaper Storage

I like to use Honest diapers because they’re plant-based and free of chemicals, but they still perform just as well as any other diaper out there. Plus they come in a skull and crossbones pattern! (OK, and cute little strawberries, anchors, and what-have-you. But the skulls are my favorite.) Their wipes are great too — nice and thick, and effective but still gentle. As with other Honest products, you can order diapers and wipes individually, or bundle them and save.

Diaper Storage

Skull and Crossbones Diapers!

I’ll be a little sad when it’s time to change the nursery. It has been a good setup that has seen us through four years of active duty (starting with Eleanor, when it was hers), but eventually the changing pad will go, and the diapers and lotions will probably be replaced with toys. And that will be good too.

I love that fox lamp! I’m sure you’ve listed it before (and I can probably guess…) but where did you get it?

I can totally relate to the fact you’re going to miss having to change the nursery… My son is now 2 years and 4 months old and he also still loves his bottle of milk in the evenings, still wears diapers (and refuses to use his potty) and sleeps in his toddler bed. And there’s still this side in me that doesn’t want him to grow older, he’s still mom’s little baby boy. ;-) But then again: I’m happy he’s getting better in being independent and doing things on his own – he has to learn and explore the big world. Oh well, moms will always have these feelings I guess. That diaper storage is looking great by the way, but I won’t be needing it – yet. :-) Maybe if there’s a second baby then we’ll definitely check out these diaper storages of Honest!

Oh and I also spread a little love for your blog on mine: http://www.simplyfabulouschic.com/2013/05/6-blogs-that-i-love Hope you’ll like it!

I love the skull diapers! I hope they’re still around when we get to having kids! Maybe we’ll just have to have them sooner. Or I could buy a box now. I must have skull diapers!

Don’t forget, they have training pants, too. ;)
I did the free trial (man, I wish I’d had this discount before!), and since I was wrapping my kid’s tush in a new diaper multiple times a day, every time I used one of the trial diapers it was a reminder to make a decision about the membership. It’s 7 days following the *receipt* of the package, not the purchase. I decided to keep the membership, and frankly, it’s awesome. Their products are great, and I love seeing (currently) little hearts on my daughter!
Yeah, they’re a little bit more, but they are just as good as others, and not only are the prints super cute, but the fact that they’re better for the environment makes them worth it for me.

I’ve never used this brand, as I cloth diaper my kids, but this is worth a read

they found them less absorbant than most other green diapers, plus they cost twice as much.

I really hope my next comment doesn’t a) offend you or b) start any kind of internet firestorm on your very lovely blog. I am a long-time reader and LOVE coming over here for a dose of inspiration, fun, and interest. Your Friday posts normally are a MUST READ for me. So thanks. Okay, onto my comment.

This is at least the second post semi-recently that read more or less like an advertisement for Honest. Not surprisingly, they’re the sponsor. I know that the issue of sponsorship is highly controversial/tricky. . . and I know that in the end, this blog is how you support your family (which totally rocks). But in the end I got so sidetracked by the advertisementy part of it that I forgot you actually were planning to kind of talk about storage.

For me, this is part of the feeling that I’ve been getting lately that there’s less and less on your blog that is just you and more than is about advertisements and sponsors (admittedly, probably complicated by the embedded faux target posts). With these elements are paired with some of the inconsistent posting lately. . . I dunno. It just leaves me feeling a little sad about the relationship between you/your blog and us, your loyal readers. I feel like you used to say that with post sponsorship you didnt need to talk about the company, but only tried to relate it when it was totally natural. Lately it’s felt like that balance has shifted a bit to writing to justify the sponsor.

Maybe its just me. And again, I write this with so much love and respect for your blog. I want you to make money on the blog because I want you to be able to support your loved ones and because the financial freedom allows you to continue to make this lovely spot on the internet. I guess I just feel that the veneer has been removed and the ad content seems to dominate more than feels good to at least this reader.

Thanks for hearing me out and for creating such a wonderful place to visit on the internet.

Well said and agreed. This post made me feel like a “target audience”.

I never want to make anyone here feel like a target audience. Thank you for voicing your concerns respectfully — I’m listening, and I take your criticism to heart.

Ren, I agree, I have been somewhat inconsistent with my posting lately (and it bothers me). I’m working on a backup computer since mine died a few weeks ago, which has impacted my productivity. I’ve also been saying yes to way too many projects lately, and have been juggling a lot at the same time. They were fun projects — ones that I wanted to do — but coupled with the change in my work flow, it has been rough.

Also, I do try to keep a good balance with sponsored posts, and to work it in when it is a natural fit. I’m proud to be able to partner with the companies that I do, but I’m also always keeping my readers in mind. There’s no real model to follow as I navigate, and advertising and sponsorship is an ever-changing thing. I’ll keep your comments in mind as I work on future posts though. Thank you.
