Industrial-ish, Victorian-ish

Some of this might be ugly-pretty. Is there a better term for this? I’m thinking of my leaf plates here. I bought them years ago because I loved them, and when Brandon saw them, let’s just say he didn’t see the appeal. He thinks I like them so much because they’re ugly, which is partly true.

Industrial-ish, Victorian-ish

Anyway. That’s not to say that all or any of the above are ugly; they just stray a bit from my usual twee/cutesy tendencies. I wouldn’t do the new house solely in this style, but a bit of this mixed with my penchant for pink and florals will go a long way.

Please, whatever you do, don’t pay $48 for that postcard holder! Go hit up some barn sales and find the same thing for $10.

Ugly-pretty..hm.. I’m trying to think of the right word. I get what you’re saying though!! It’s always a great idea to throw in a few items into a home that are different from your typical style.. to sort of accentuate everything else.

Hah! My husband and I have the same arguments “That’s HIDEOUS” “No it’s not, it’s interesting and eclectic. Trust me.”

I am soo into this. For one, it respects the age of your new/old home, and for two, I love a touch of industrial especial pair with some modern lines (thinking of your sofa) and feminine touches (hello pink!) Can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

I love all of your choices (steampunk undertones, perhaps?). My only issue is the sticker shock I experienced for most of those items. I particularly love the mirror and rug (#10), but could probably furnish an entire room for the cost of just one. Still, oh so loverly.

Yes, steampunk undertones! It reminds me a little of Sherlock Holmes’ apartment in the new PBS series, which is awesome. :)

Ha! A friend and I jokingly referred to the house as my Steampunk Mansion.

These say more “industrial” or “rustic” or “country” to me. Honestly, some of them quite appeal… but then I’m trying to figure out how to furnish and decorate a farmhouse!

Junk yard chic? Modern rustic? I’m fascinated by this style, but don’t think I could live with it… and I love your leaf plates!

Ooo I would hardly call these items ugly-pretty, but I know what you mean. I have a penchant for ugly, gnarly items…I think it’s the norwegian in me – all of my christmas decor is ugly trolls that I just love! My husband is only beginning to understand why I love them so much…hopefully Brandon can appreciate your next vision for the new home!

Love all this! I’m definitely drawn to the industrial. Just a little touch of it does it for me. Also, do you have Tuesday Morning stores there? You probably do…I just found that peacock mirror there and got it for $60! It was missing one tiny mirror that a trip to Michael’s quickly corrected. Who knows, maybe you’ll have amazing luck finding it there too.

I like the name Rustic Industrial Victorian. I think it is a nice contrast mixed into a traditional Victorian house, it also definitely helps in adding some masculine back into a house style that can start to feel pretty feminine. I really like #3, hmmmm…not quite sure where I could fit this, but I can always use more hooks.

We just put in a new ceiling fan in our upstairs hallway that has the same feel. I was a little torn about whether it was too Steampunk, but I quite like it now that it is in place, which makes me realize that I need to shoot a picture of it against our daisy stained glass window.

I’ve always loved those leaf plates!!! I scored some of those rose gold toned plates during the holidays and they are my faves so far, you must know which I am talking about, from world market ;), but I am trying to expand my “side plate” collection, without just going out and buying junk.

Love where the new home is going. I feel as if I just sold the old home along with you guys though!

I always tell my husband I am attracted to ugly things (except for him of course!)so I love ALL of this. I am excited to see how you mix this look into your home. I tend to struggle with mixing antique and modern pieces, but hate being restricted to one style.

I just have to say – the hubby’s just don’t get it. Mine just told me last night in reference to something he finds ugly that is still waiting in the garage for its Useful Place inside the house: I just can’t look at it or think about it – that’s your department. !!!!! Maybe your hubs could try that on for size since you’ve, I dunno, made a business of your design aesthetic?!? ;-)

But mostly I wanted to tell you how much I truly adore your leaf plates. I’ve been a long-time follower, am now a first time commenter, all because of your darling hub’s disparaging of your fabulous leaf plates! *smirk*

A new style is born! Love this collection of rustic romantic industrial items, they would fill a renovated warehouse loft nicely. I agree with Laura it’s definitely Wabi-sabi.
