Our Bedroom The Victorian House

Sea Salt in the Bedroom

The things I do for you guys. Why’d you all make me paint my bedroom this color?

Sea Salt Paint in the Bedroom

Kidding, of course. I was torn between Sea Salt and Comfort Gray, and leaning toward the darker of the two. I’ve always liked Sea Salt though (I put together a whole collection of rooms featuring the color right here), so I gave it a try. I was concerned that it would be washed out next to my unpainted wood trim.

And yeah…

With white trim? Absolutely. Gorgeous. In my house? It looks like I sort of committed to a color, then chickened out.

I only did one side of the room, as a test. We’ve been living with half-painted walls for two weeks because I really did want to give it a fighting chance! I’m more certain of my original choice now though, which is a good feeling. Time to repaint.

I see what you mean…. it would look great against white trim with that contrast, but you can’t see the real depth here against wood. I’m interested to see the whole room when it’s repainted. You’re painting above the picture rail too?

I painted my bedroom sea salt recently! I plan on painting all the trim white but for now it looks lovely and my bed set is a natural wood color and it looks great! It also helps that my bedding works great with it. I am really pleased with how it turned out!!! I loved comfort gray too but I don’t want to do too many gray colors in my house or my husband will say we live in a 50 shades of gray house! LOL!

Comfort Gray all the way! The gorgeous wood in the house deserves a little richness! :) When we painted our kitchen gray, we said we wanted it to look deliberate, not just like we kinda sorta went with a color, and now it’s a darker gray and we love it!

We have almost the identical woodwork and tone in our 1920’s era craftsman. We tired i think6 shades of blue in our living room. Sea Salt being one of them and while it was gorgeous in our previous home with white wood work it DIED next to the tone of the wood. We ended up going with Silvermist (Sherwin Williams). It works really well with the wood not looking too blue or too dull. Hope this helps!

My sister is having the same problem at her house. They have natural wood trim and when they tried a bunch of grays on the wall you couldn’t tell any of them were gray. They all looked like dingy white!

I really like the darker color with your trim as well. It is amazing how colors play off one another. I hate to admit it, but I’ve repainted several rooms a shade or two lighter or darker from the original choice. Just part of the process I guess!

I’m sorry you had to go through that, but I’m glad to see the direction you went so I can learn from it! I tested a bunch of Farrow & Ball gray paints this summer, and I ultimately chose a slightly darker shade (Manor House Gray) for the same reason. (We’re no paneled Victorian, but we have a lot of wood trim in our 1947 home, and I too was worried that it wouldn’t be strong enough to go with a lighter shade.) Then I started second-guessing myself since it’s the dark dreary winter and I fret about it feeling too gloomy—but you’ve convinced me to go with my original darker choice!

I’d like to take this moment to say that I don’t think I even commented on that post… >.> Not my fault! lol

Smart you for only painting part of the room. I’m usually so excited about painting, I paint everywhere.

My dining room is comfort gray (I chose darker because it receives a lot of light) and I LOVE IT. I say go Comfort Gray all the way!!

It’s nice. Sort of a semi-type of color. It will definitely go with anything and everything.

Our house always had white trim. Might be old-fashioned, but still very glammy looking and sophisticated. You cannot go wrong with white trimming.

I’ve been wondering what you were going to pick! The little double parlors in my 1926 Oak Park bungalow have red oak crown molding and baseboards, but the previous owner trimmed the windows white, and that combination has me angsting about paint colors. Any suggestions are welcome!
