I’ve been enjoying my new watercolor hobby, since posting to that time-lapse video I found so inspiring. It’s only been about a month since I started, during which I’ve probably painted four times, but I’m proud of how I’m progressing. I’ve missed making art, even if I’m just painting what amount to cute spot illustrations.
I’ve been experimenting with different paints (tubes vs. pans, student grade versus professional quality), and I’m still finding what I like. You know what turned out to be great though? The inexpensive 36-color watercolor palette I had initially picked up on a whim at Michael’s. I’ve heard from more seasoned watercolor artists that they love it too!
Want to give it a go for yourself? I went back and bought five more palettes, along with some better quality paintbrushes (don’t bother with the one it comes with) to give away to five readers. I also bought five Moleskine Watercolor Notebooks

I picked up a paintbrush a couple weeks ago too (for the first time) and watercolors are so much fun to play with! I’ve felt relaxed, inspired, and just happy when I’m painting. Watercolors make me happy too! I got out my old set and bought some new ones and paper this summer after I took the bar exam. It was a great way to destress after months of studying and it was a fun thing to focus on while I waited for my results.

Just started playing with watercolors after seeing some of your sweet little illustrations and would love to have this pallet and notebook to create a lovely little hobby!

This is a nice giveaway. I love watercolors and carry a moleskin around from time to time. The little travel pallets are the best to have on hand, but the tubes are also nice when you have some time to sit and play with mixing.

I’ve only worked with acrylic or oil paints and I’ve always wanted to try watercolors. I have some beautiful watercolors that my grandmother did and I cherish them.
I took a watercolor painting lesson a few years ago and quite enjoyed it (though the methodology is SO different than the acrylics and oils that I’m used to), but I always seem to feel like when I sit down to paint I need to do a full on painting. I admire that you take what time you have and create little projects for practice and enjoyment – I definitely need to take a page from your book! The giveaway idea is lovely!

I’m not an artist naturally but I love graphic design so much that I went back to school for it several years ago. Recently, a lot of my family has been telling me I need to go back to doing something that I’m good at naturally instead of trying a career in design and it’s making me really want to prove them wrong. I’ve been wishing to get back into painting as well, though I used oils and acrylics more often than watercolor. It seems like watercolor is maybe less forgiving but the results are more immediate, which is a good thing for a mom with limited free time. Thanks for the tip off on good paints!

The tin box is dented and the hinge is broke but every time I open it and see the names like, Pink Madder,Green Bice and Venetian Red, it takes me back to a time when I could disappear into a world of flowers, trees and butterflies. When I look at your work it brings it all back to me. Thank you!

Love your paintings! You have so much talent! :) I love those watercolors too. In my country I can only get professional watercolors that cost a small fortune, so I always feel guilty when something I paint doesn’t work out :( So stress of failure + painting = bad work in my case :(
Love this! As a kid, I was always creating (calling it art might be a stretch– ha!). My 5 year old son has reminded me of the joy in creating as he loves it like I did. It’s so easy to abandon things that bring us joy as we attend to our jobs, dishes, laundry, groceries, etc. I think the giveaway is great and I love the sentiment, too :)

I love watercolor! For brushes, I actually buy cheapo nail art brushed from amazon, they’re like $2 for 15 and have some really great shapes for doing the tiny little details and things. This is so sweet of your to share your love of painting!

I love watercolors. :) I’m an art ed student, and in my painting courses so far we’ve used mostly acrylic. But for one class we used gouache (the opaque tubed stuff) which I love. My favorite part is that you can decide whether it’s opaque or transparent.
I had an etsy shop for a while and would include thank you notes made on watercolor paper with each purchase.

My 7-year old daughter, Ellery, and I have loved reading your blog together. The entire run over the holiday break. We especially loved the time lapse deer watercolor, which we have watched many times since. Ellery wants me to tell you that she really lIke’s the flower in The deer’s mouth and she gets frustrated when the bristles come loose from her brush into her picture. You inspired us to paint a few watercolors ourselves … Mostly fruit and butterflies. Ellery also likes seeing what Eleanor is up to and how her bedroom changes.
