Making it Yours 12A: Lincoln and Dhurrie Armchairs

We have the first two of our designs up from this edition of Making it Yours today! I’m decorating around both the Lincoln and Dhurrie chairs, showing how each can be used throughout a person’s life, seeing them through different stages and different styles. Let’s meet our fictional friend, Marie.

hr 644

Marie likes to sing. Loudly. She’s shy about it though, at first limiting her performances to coincide with her morning shower, and later when her roommate moved out, she’d perform encores throughout the day while doing chores or cooking dinner. She won’t get on stage for karaoke and isn’t into the whole bar scene, but she throws parties on a whim just about every month. She knows everything about astrology but doesn’t believe in it, loves big, goofy dogs, and always wears a crazy hat. She’s about to turn thirty, and has been working a lot of late nights but is starting to make decent money. She’s fun, happy, and bright, and wants her apartment to be too.

For this first post, I kept the looks fairly similar, swapping out only a few things to achieve the same overall look. I’ll be taking a different approach next time though, which I’ll be sharing next week!

Wow! What great rooms, Nicole! I would definitely live in either of them!

I’m a fan of orange and teal together (were even our wedding colors). :)

Boy, you sure did keep these fairly similar. I thought I was looking at a hunt-and-find-the-differences picture with the two boards side by side. :)

I did that on purpose for this first round! There were requests for coming up with designs that would work equally well for both chairs, so I kept these really close. The next one will have them branching off in different directions.

Feels a little boring to me,
Sorry, just speak my mind. I was hoping for different boards. What is going Nicole. Where is the inspiration,
    Remember this post??

I think the design is anything but boring! I understand some people want different boards, but some people don’t. That’s why I’m starting off with the chairs in similar looks and then taking them in different directions from there.

I don’t know how anyone can say these are boring. My eyes are satisfied. Neither are my tastes, but I think it’s amazing to see the same style be created with two pretty different pieces. I love the new chairs in your house though!

Nicole I love what you did here! I was one of the ones asking for designs for each chair and this was so interesting. I definitely thought I would love the room with the Dhurrie chair the best as I normally like more out there and colorful designs but after seeing the boards I love the board with the Lincoln chair best. This was really eye opening. Great job! I can’t wait to see where you go from here.

I love both rooms (especially the rug and wall color!) but i think i enjoy “Marie”s little write-up just as much. Great series, and as someone already suggested window dressings would be really helpful addition.

Love both looks! I love how you did the post and show the effect of small changes. I can learn a lot from this just by comparing. You are good ! Love from Belgium

I love how the looks are so similar! I thought I was going to love the brighter chair look best, but I think I like the second board better. Also, I think I know Marie in real life. Ha!

Thank you for putting the two boards side-by-side. I could really see the differences and similarities that way.

Making It Lovely has always stood out to me as a blog with surprisingly few negative comments and lots of positive, constructive ones. There’s been a good amount of negativity in recent weeks. I hope it’s just a fluke! I love the blog!

Reading and enjoying your design boards Nicole. Arro rug (love runners!) is absolutely divine. Oh boy. Definitely thinking of purchasing. This old house has very long dining room + living room oak floors. Also entrance hallway is spacious. 2 would look wonderful! Love colorful rug patterns. You can’t go wrong. A colorful world at your footsies!
