A Ninja Turtles Back to School Party

This post is sponsored by Target. More Turtles, More Bold and Daring Fun: Blur the lines of fantasy and reality with your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at Target.

We have friends and neighbors in the area with kids the same ages as ours, so we thought it would be fun to have everyone over for pizza last weekend. It was a low-key party in celebration of the first week of school, and in anticipation of the first week of preschool for the younger ones. August is into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles now, so we went with the Turtles as a theme.

Turtle Power!

We had turtle shells, masks, and toy weapons on hand for all the kids, and they got to take them home when the party was over. They could dress up right away, but I kept the weapons out of sight until it was time for “ninja practice.” To keep things as calm as possible when a whole bunch of kids are going nuts with play swords and nunchucks, we made it clear that they were only allowed to hit the inflatable bad guy and all toy weapons had to stay in the practice area. Thankfully, the rules worked!

Ninja Practice

I picked up some TMNT plates and green decorations from Target for the party. We ordered pizza (on theme!), and the kids sat around the table while the adults gravitated toward the kitchen. For dessert, we had mint chocolate chip ice cream (because: green) and Turtles (of course).

We had eight kids in the house, and eight adults. The Ninja Turtles theme was perfect because it kept the kids occupied and entertained so that the adults could actually have a conversation. Hurrah, time spent in the company of grown-ups! Plus, hello, the kids looked adorable.

p.s. The shells are quite flattering on a very round, pregnant belly. And with such a nice protective quality!

Cute idea, and I love the green decor. And the belly-shell! Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before? :)

I love a good theme party and what a fun way to mark the end of summer and the start of a new school year – so fun! And I’m really loving all of the party decor from Target, especially those fans and spheres. I’m planning a first birthday “Monster Mash” in a couple of weeks, so may need to pickup a couple for our diy photo backdrop!

I love the idea of a “just because” party! No huge stress over birthday or event issues, just an excuse to get together & have fun. Brilliant! And who doesn’t love kids in costumes? I’m going to use this idea, as soon as the surprise hot weather ends!

Just want to say that you look wonderful! I looks like you have not put on weight anywher except for your cute baby bump!
All three times I was pregnant it looked like I was carrying triplets….one in the front, one on my butt, and one in my neck.

This is so adorable! I’m wondering if TMNT will still be hot next year when my son turns 2, such a great theme. I love how the standard pizza totally fits :) Happy Birthday to August!

Nicole-Did you send a post that begins with a pic of David Bowie? This is the second post I have gotten that looks exactly like your posts except for content. Content in the first included the f word? and this one seems to be about rock concerts. If it is you great but if not I worry about it infecting my LTop with a virus. I did post to you about the 1st suggesting that I forward it but I didn’t get a response. Sorry to bother you but your post is so lovely.. I would hate to see its rep tarnished by some yahoo posting as you.

My Friday post this week had David Bowie in it, yes. I’m not sure about the other though. One of the links — the Anthropologie furniture styling — had some language in it, but I didn’t write anything like that on my site itself.

I apologize for not reading any of the David Bowie post. I’m a little paranoid about virus’s-etc. so I will go back and read it through and see what it’s about. Again sorry to introduce a downer note into a totally up-beat blog.
