Calvin's Room The Victorian House

The Nursery, After Construction

Who’s ready for some pretty pictures? (Sorry to disappoint. It’s the nursery.)

The Nursery, Before

The Nursery, Before

The room is about 12’x12′ though the built-in cabinetry takes up 2′ of floor space along the window wall, and the doorway comes into the room 2′ as well. She doesn’t look like much yet, but see that radiator by the door? Here it is from another angle, not too long ago.

Second Floor Construction

Walls and a door are a big improvement.

The nursery will not be ready for the baby’s arrival — obviously. I would love to have it at least cleared out, cleaned up, and with primed (if not painted!) walls, but we’re 10 days from the due date. I don’t know if it’s going to happen. The important thing though is that there IS a nursery. It exists! There may still be a kitchen sink in the room, but at least it’s no longer hooked up!

The Nursery, Before

I’m due on the 26th, but I’m willing the baby to be born on the 23rd (it’s totally going to work, you guys). My birthday is on the 22nd, but my grandma’s is the 23rd and it would be very sweet if they could share the date. Brandon’s going to be working on the room, getting it presentable and trying to throw a coat of primer up, so we’ll see if the baby cooperates with my proposed timeline.

We’re using the brown glider and ottoman that we already have (not so stylish, but very comfortable), and our black jenny lind crib. You can see them in the old house, in both Eleanor’s and August’s nurseries. We don’t need a dresser or bookcase since we have a wall of built-in storage, so the room should come together pretty quickly and easily. Paint, a rug, fabric, art… I’m looking forward to the fun part of working on the nursery now!

I was born on my great-grandmother’s birthday, and my father remains convinced to this day that he willed it to happen (I was two weeks early, so he has a little bit of evidence). My middle name is her first name, and I’ve always loved that even though I never knew her, I have a little piece of a woman my father loved dearly with me always. Good luck, and let’s hope it works!

That’s so sweet. That’s the kind of connection I would like our little guy to have. Come on, 23rd!

I love that you kept all those built ins in there. I think that’s going to be fabulous for storing all of the baby’s things and that lots of built-ins look great in this style of house.

    Man I love those builtins.

With my third, I willed him to come on a certain date. I scheduled an induction for a time when my family could fly up to get my other children, and I didn’t even need it because I went into labor that morning! It was great. Hope you get the same thing.

Will you be keep the light fixture? I’m looking forward to the nursery mood board! There will be a mood board, right?

I think we’re going to put a ceiling fan in his room. Not the prettiest, but we don’t have central AC and some air flow would be good in there. And yes, there will be a mood board!

I just had my first child almost 8 weeks ago, and he was born on my 37th week. I’m not sure if I really willed it to happen, but I had joked the entire pregnancy that as soon as I hit 37 weeks I was going to try every old wives tale in the book to get him to join us early (I was sick of being pregnant pretty much right away). Much to my surprise my water broke early that morning and he joined us just in time for lunch.

We also just moved into our first home last week that is still a construction zone for a few more weeks. I can’t wait for the dust to settle so I can put together his nursery! Best of luck in finishing the nursery as well as an easy delivery!

I’m ready to be done, for sure. If baby and I can hold out though, it gives Brandon more time to get a little work done in there. Good luck to you as your house comes together, and enjoy working on the nursery!

Can’t wait to see it when it’s done! Where is the baby going to sleep if it’s still being painted though?

The baby would be sleeping in our room at first anyway, whether the nursery was completely done or not.

You’ll be shocked at what even a rough coat of primer will do for the space. My bedrooms have been sporting primer “clouds” for almost 11 months now (literally just painted our bedroom last weekend), and I am still getting compliments on the cool wall treatment.

    Good luck all around!

I tried really hard to will my baby to be born on the 4th of July, but the half of a pineapple I ate on the second had her born on the 3rd instead, three days before her due date (that’s my theory, at least)!

Sorry if I missed your post regarding the cabinetry you removed from the nursery and hallway, but did you keep those intact and move them elsewhere or did you get rid of them? The rooms looks great with the changes already and I can’t wait to see more :)

Spaces are looking so good Nicole. ; )) You too! Your fans can barely wait to meet the newest arrival!! August and Eleanor are going to so love their baby brother! It’s gonna be fun for all. P.S. Curious, why did you select a brown (fabric) recliner? Brown has never thrilled me. Too dull. I’d love the same exact chair/ottoman for my living room in navy. Black JL crib is really nice, kinda unusual. Matches up with things ok. I love black and white linens for a baby’s room! Best of ……

We bought it in 2009 from Babies ‘R’ Us, and it only came in two colors: brown or ivory. I figured brown would hold up better. There are so many more stylish choices out there now, even though it’s only five years later, but it seems silly to buy a new glider when the one we have is still perfectly fine!
