The 4-6 Weeks Project (Week Six)

I’m taking photographs of Eleanor and August each day until baby number three arrives, to document our last 4-6 weeks as a family of four. I first did this project to document our time as a family of three before August was born.

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 19

Aunt Ashley came over after work today, so she and mama took you guys out while daddy started priming the nursery. We went to a few shops in Forest Park, and then had dinner at Junction Diner. They have a huge chalkboard wall there, a photobooth, a train table and toys, and our dinner arrived via model train!

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 20

Mama picked up a new rug to try in the nursery today. Eleanor, you saw it and immediately tried to shimmy up it like a tree trunk! Poor August wanted to do it too but he couldn’t hang on tight enough, and then daddy thought maybe this whole climbing thing wasn’t such a good idea anyway. (But it WAS fun, right, E?)

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 21

Just a little castle time. You fight with each other a lot (“I’m never ever playing with you again” can be heard all too often), but you also have plenty of fun and get along more often than not.

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 22

Mama’s 34th birthday! Everyone had been wondering if the baby would share the day, but nope. August and Eleanor, you’re holding the Pikmin toys you gave mama for her birthday — pretty sure they’re going to end up more yours than hers. (Was that your plan all along when you chose them?)

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 23

Oh no, look out! It’s the Hug-Bot. RUN!
Argh, August, he’s got you!

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 24

August, mama snapped this picture when you got back from school. A few toys, a few pets, family… the house feels good. Comforting, colorful, and cozy. Ready for a new little baby to come home to.

The 4-6 Weeks Project: September 25

You two have a million toys (too many toys!), but a new box comes and suddenly it’s the BEST THING EVER. That box, by the way, was from a bouncy seat that we ordered for the baby. He’s due tomorrow, but will he show up?

Thanks! I think it was from Target a couple of years ago.

Thought maybe you’d surprise us Nicole w/baby news! Guess maybe not today. However, Tuesday isn’t over yet. Little one is fine and cozy where he’s at! It’s too chilly here anyway. So cute, Eleanor & August thought bouncy-seat was (more) toys! I did wish to purchase a bouncy for my niece, she wasn’t interested though. Your kids fight? If you hadn’t mentioned it, I never would have believed. Seems like they get along so perfectly. Kids will be kids afterall. ;)) They will always figure it out, argue their own battles. P.S. For certain Nicole, baby will be born in October, if not later today.

There’s still a teeny bit of time left in the day, but it looks like this will be an October baby!

I love reading these every week. I have an annoying question…where do you get your maternity tights?

I haven’t bought any during this pregnancy, but I probably got them from Pea in the Pod or Destination Maternity years back — whatever that maternity shop was that used to be in Oakbrook Center (a local mall).

Nicole – I don’t often comment on blogs, but given the posts about the changing nature of blogging I realize I’m long overdue to say what a lovely blog you do have. It’s strange to realize I’ve welcomed myself into your home and family by reading your blog over the years, and I figured it would be nice for me to finally say thank you for sharing and congratulations on your growing family! Also, if you run short on ideas for blog posts I’d happily accept shameless use of your adorable pets.

Thank you so much! Comments have changed too, along with so much else in blogging, and sweet ones like yours don’t happen as often.

I agree with Sarah Jane, I do love your blog so much. I would love to know how you set budgets for each room. I’m slowly decorating my house now that my husband and I are a more settled and have a bit of extra money to actually invest in making our home look nice. Right now I’m applying your rules for using accent colors in my living room (and getting compliments!)

I’m so glad to hear that the advice is helpful! As for setting a budget for each room, I don’t approach it that way. When you have a finished (or nearly finished) home and are looking to redo a room, it makes sense. When you’re working on a whole house though, I think it’s more of a shifting, changing thing, and I wouldn’t want to allocate X amount to the bedroom and X amount to the living room, when I may luck out and find something amazing for one that allows me to spend a little more elsewhere. I’m more of the mind that I will hold out for just the right thing and save up if necessary, and I’m enjoying the process of letting the house come together over time.

Ohhhhh! Nicole You look so happy and dear But golly gee you must be ready to pop this Baby out. You are such a trooper and super organized so I know you’re handling everything about this new addition much more effectively than I-but my one excuse was I produced three boys in less than 5 years and I was 20 with the first, still one month shy of 22 with the second and 24 with the third. TMI but thank God for the IUD or I think we could have produced a small Town. Good Luck! and the House is just beautiful.

Yes, definitely ready to be done here! Three kids in less than six years here, which feels like good spacing, and we think this is likely the last baby for us.
