Calvin's Room The Victorian House

Progress in the Nursery

Calvin’s nursery is coming along! It’s fully functional now, but there are pictures to be hung, toys and books to be brought in, and maybe a light to deal with. We’re thinking of putting a ceiling fan in the room eventually, and I haven’t decided if I should take down the pendant that’s in the room now, or just leave it until we’re ready to switch it out. There are three recessed lights in the ceiling, so we wouldn’t be in the dark either way.

Parts for the Crib

The crib we’re using for Calvin’s nursery is the same one that both Eleanor and August slept in. It had a drop side originally, but we converted it to be stationary back in 2010 amidst massive recalls and changes in regulations. It’s safe and sturdy, and I still love the look of it.

The newly assembled crib was a novelty for the Balch children!

The Crib!

Weirdos.

I’m wondering if I should bring in some shelving or bins for open toy storage. The room is definitely not lacking for storage with all of the built-ins, but it feels a little funny to be hiding everything away behind closed doors. Maybe a basket or two is enough though? It all spills out into the room as they get a little older anyway — maybe I should enjoy everything being out of sight while I still can.

cute photo of all the kiddos!!
just a thought to create some ‘open’ storage – would it be possible to remove the top doors temporarily for an open shelving look? visually would open up the wall too.
sometimes I think of doing that with my dining room corner cabinets.

I’ve got to agree with you to keep things out of the way while you can! My four and five year old cover their floors with dolls and shopkins while the walls are covered in artwork. Enjoy it while you can but maybe some open shelves for books would be nice. We love the ikea spice racks for forward facing books and you can paint or stain them.

I think some open storage is a good idea. You could use it for things the other kids might use to play with Calvin or just anything you’re going to need often. So fun that we get to create spaces for our babies. This is a place he’ll remember forever and that’s so neat!

Cute cute kiddos! The nursery is looking adorable. Where did you get the art that is leaning on the floor? Love the colors.

Fun, fun fun! What beautiful children. For sure, with this newest photo, Calvin looks so much like big brother August. Then again, very often baby resembles Eleanor. Any which way …. all adorables!! A bit of open storage will be great. Not always possible to put things neatly away when busy. Hampers and big open toy boxes are great. You will definitely come up with a lovely solution Nicole!
