My Office Our Bedroom The Victorian House

Working on My Work Space

I’ve been making over four spaces in my home over the course of four weeks, using just $100 from Target and GE reveal® LED light bulbs. I’ve also had a total of $4000 in Target gift cards and plenty of GE reveal® lighting to give away so that each week, 10 readers win everything they need for their own #100reveal makeovers! The rules and information are at the bottom of this post, so be sure to enter.

Making it Lovely's Desk - Before

This week, I’m working on my work space. I had some difficulty while pregnant with my third baby but I still had to work at my computer, so to limit my going up and down stairs, Brandon helped set up my desk in our bedroom. It was supposed to be a temporary solution, but Calvin is five months old already and I’m still working from the same spot! It was a bit of surprise, how much I would love working here.

Since I see my desk all the time, I figured it was about time I spruced it up a bit. The task lighting needed to be addressed, and I knew I could pick up a handful of things from Target with my $100 makeover budget that would help my cluttered desktop and drawer.

Desk Accessories from Target and GE reveal Lighting

You can see how I put everything to use and the difference that GE reveal® bulbs made in this week’s #100reveal video.

The drawer needed a lot of help. I know some people are OK with an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mess, but that kind of thing drives me crazy! I’m far from being neat all the time, but I do like my drawers, cabinets, and closets to be tidy. I picked up a jewelry organizer that fit perfectly inside the desk and separated everything into compartments.

Messy Desk Drawer

Just about everything that was in the drawer was put back, the only exception being the printer ink refills which went in one of the nesting boxes I picked up at Target.

Organized Desk Drawer | Making it Lovely

The room is flooded with beautiful light during the day, but it was less lovely when the sun went down. We rely on lamps in the bedroom rather than overhead lighting, but the bulbs cast a yellow tint that turned our blue/gray walls green. Switching them to GE reveal® LED bulbs kept the colors true and the room instantly looked better.

Before and After GE #100reveal Lighting Makeover | Making it Lovely

I can get pretty hungry throughout the day since I’m nursing, so I’ve been keeping chocolate covered almonds at my desk (yum!). The container isn’t so nice to look at though, so I tucked it inside another of the nesting boxes I picked up. I keep water nearby too, and the occasional cup of coffee.

Desktop | Making it Lovely

My desk wasn’t terrible before, but it’s much better now with a little organization and a lighting upgrade.

Speaking of work spaces….my desk is plopped in the corner of our homeschool room, so it doesn’t get any love. Rather, it is pile central! Would love to be able to beautify and organize…

I would love to improve the light in our office area. We spend plenty of time in there in the evenings and weekends, playing games or just browsing. Right now, we have a hideous standing lamp. It would be great to replace that and upgrade the bulb!

I’m gearing up for a move in a month and my big desire for our next place is better lighting! I’m incredibly lucky to get great natural sunlight in every room of our current apartment, but I know that won’t be possible everywhere. This #100reveael prize would go a long way to improving it!

My work-from-home ‘office’ also doubles as our guest room. I would love to bring in proper work lighting and make the space More functional. Right now I use the lamp from the bedside table! Also, I miss having a corkboard like I had when I worked in an office. I’m sure Target would have the perfect one that would also be cute!

Since I had my first baby, Leo, in October, I’ve been adjusting my schedule to be able to work from home more frequently. My home workspace would definitely go a long way toward making this space more user-friendly. There currently is no task lighting in the office so the #100reveal prize would absolutely be utilized towards remedying that! Secondly, the piles of paper (that my husband seems to not be able to see at all) are threatening to overtake this space! Some simple organizational solutions would help clear the clutter and allow more efficient work to happen :)

My “workspace” is busted. We need to paint our ikea table posing as a desk (because the kids have drawn on it); get a filing cabinet so I can organize our household documents and my lesson plans; some pretty task lighting; and some kind of vertical storage solution because there are no drawers – then I can maybe keep the pens away from little hands in the future. #100reveal

I love this! If I won #100reveal I could do so much with my work space, which also doubles as a paint studio in my Victorian home. The lights would help balance so much when I’m painting (or designing) without giving a yellow hue – so important when mixing pigments. It’d also be nice to get a few things to help me sort my painting supplies (cups be runneth over here!) and I know Target could help with that!

My workspace is a disaster! I have a small desk that is littered with papers because I can’t figure out how to organize and store things. I would love to have a place to set up my laptop and get some work done in the evening after my daughter goes to sleep, but it’s so uninviting, I just sit uncomfortably on the couch trying to get work done. Or sitting at the dining room table, but I’m short and the table is a little too tall for me to sit comfortably at and work.

Ahh, I would love to update my work-from-home space. I’m a college instructor, so a lot of grading and planning still takes place at home – our dining room is my go-to work spot and the lighting in our chandelier is awful and I have no where to store my papers. Some organization for the sideboard perhaps and more natural lighting would make this space so much more pleasant! #100reveal

We moved into our current flat with a newborn (#2!) and after an emergency c-section, and our office/library space is still the one area that never received the love. I like to say it’s were all the leftover furniture we didn’t know what to do with went to die! I would love to get a new desk, and a comfy chair or loves eat for reading, and of course bookshelves since I still buy real books, even though I cracked and use the Kindle my hubs got me too. New light bulbs would be wonderful as I am love lamps over ceiling fixtures and the light cast by the #100reveal seem to do a great job.

    Hi Nicole!

I also work at home and love my workspace during the day (lots of natural light – almost too much!), but it feels very dark at night and is likely a reason I’m less inclined be in there in the evening. I would love to try out the GE Reveal lighting, and the Target gift card would go a long way in adding a few accessories to beautify my space and make it more inviting and cozy. I could definitely use a wireless mouse & keyboard because the cords are all over the place. My office workspace is small, and it’s also my sewing room and our guest room. The space is organized well, but it’s lit very poorly. There’s no overhead lighting, which is OK during the day, but not at night, or on an overcast day. Right now, I have two lamps and am contemplating adding some task lighting (or maybe swapping in brighter bulbs). Either way, LED bulbs would be great – I have one in what used to be the reading lamp by the couch. It was expensive but totally worth it to get rid of the buzzing noise the cheapo CFL made, which drove me nuts when I was reading. #100reveal

We are purchasing a mid-century ranch home that gets a lot of natural light. I’ve always loved natural light and I’ve always hated how dim and yellow things seem without it. Even though we’ll be keeping a lot of the mid-century touches, one thing I can’t wait to do is switch out the old yellow light bulbs for newer energy saving LED ones. I would love to participate in #100reveal – as a new mom, I’ve also been struggling with finding the best place for my desk. We recently moved it up from our office into our main living room/dining room area. While I love my slim desk in the space, the functionality and lighting are seriously lacking. I think this would be the perfect way to spruce things up and make the space feel “on purpose” instead of “oh, there is a desk crammed in here” like it does now. At the end of the month, I will be staying home with our baby full time, so I will definitely need a designated work space for photo editing, writing, bills, and what not… everything can run together too much if I end up working from the couch since I won’t be going in to an office anymore.

This giveaway is perfect timing! I’m currently working on moving my workspace from my bedroom to my living room. I need some sort of lamp as this corner is DARK. I think the GE Reveal light bulb would work nicely in some sort of overhead sconce. I also need a table/bookcase next to my desk for the printer. That’s where the target gift card would come in handy. #100reveal

We have a den that has the craziest lighting at night! A new light with GE Reveal bulbs and some goodies from Target would really help! #100reveal

I picked up a GE Reveal LED at Target this weekend (on sale + they had a nice lady handing out a coupon) for my basement workbench fixture — and I love it! These would be a great update for my studio lighting as well…plus something soft and cozy from Target to cheer up my desk chair would be terrific! #100reveal.

My craft room and work space has been deemed “Sadie’s Room.” Sadie is our cat – so you could probably guess the state it’s in. It’s in much need of a makeover and some new LED bulbs provided by #100reveal!

My desk is in our spare bedroom over the garage with funky ceilings- it is impossible to light well with an overhead light. I could really use a desk lamp to light the space better.

Being a high school student, it’s often difficult to escape the monotony of homework (Especially being that my current work space is less than ideal). So while I may never be able to alleviate the stresses of daily assignments, I can, and hope, to make the area that surrounds it a bit more inviting. Who knows? For someone that is very affected by their environment, a new work space might even inspire me to change my less than optimistic opinion of the subject. Okay, maybe not totally, but it is a good start!

Thank you, and, as a side note, I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog. It makes me hopeful for my own future!

My boyfriend and I are moving in together at the end of the month (and signing the lease today!). My new “office” is in the finished basement, but only has one window and not a lot of natural light. Brightening up the space with some natural-looking light would make it so much more inviting! #100reveal

Both my desk in the master bedroom and the office/homeschooling space in the dining room are in real need of organization. #100reveal!

My perfect workspace would include a nice minimalist desk, a pretty pendant light or task lamp or something with GE Reveal light bulbs, and new speakers because mine have finally given up the ghost. Right now I’m suffering under a hand-me-down laminate desk with big giant drawers that allow me to stash unnecessary stuff in them, no task lighting, and speakers that only sort of work. Ha! #100reveal

I’d love to upgrade to GE Reveal Lights in my office to get rid of the slightly eerie and non-productivity-encouraging cold blue glow that my compact fluorescents currently emit..

and since my office doubles as my guest room, i’d love to add a new floor lamp to allow guests to read without the overhead on.

I have a few of these scattered in my house and they really do make a difference. My office/guest room is light from a small table lamp and overhead lights from a fan. I would love to replace the bulbs and make it a truer color in here.

Nice changes! My office space is only lit by the overhead ceiling fan so I could really use some task lighting. And it’s a dumping ground for things that have a real home so it really needs organizing with some pretty boxes or baskets or something. I’d love to win the #100reveal and fix it up!

I would love to update my dreary nightstand. The lighting is so dark…that I need to be right up under the table lamp to read. I would use the $100 Target gift card to spruce up the nightstand with cute trays and storage.

We lost our office when it became a nursery…need to make the sad little corner carved into our living space look more intentional. The lighting could use improvement — those lightbulbs seem to make a big difference. I’m excited to try them out. #100reveal

Our living room is beautiful in the morning, but dark in the afternoon (and SO dark at night!) I do a ton of my email, reading, committee work in there. A new floor lamp from Target and a GE Reveal bulb would make it, ah, 100 TIMES better! #100reveal

We live in NYC… so our “office space” is a tiny Micke desk from Ikea. I would love to add a cute scone to the area or a filing cabinet!

My boyfriend and I live in a small Chicago apartment with no office space (both of us have jobs that require a lot of at-home writing, editing, and correspondence). Our dining room/dining room table do double duty as both our workspace and our eating space. At the moment, one end of our table is covered with papers and other implements. I would like to do some creative organizing/storage to make this space a bit less unsightly.
