My Office Our Bedroom The Victorian House

Working on My Work Space

I’ve been making over four spaces in my home over the course of four weeks, using just $100 from Target and GE reveal® LED light bulbs. I’ve also had a total of $4000 in Target gift cards and plenty of GE reveal® lighting to give away so that each week, 10 readers win everything they need for their own #100reveal makeovers! The rules and information are at the bottom of this post, so be sure to enter.

Making it Lovely's Desk - Before

This week, I’m working on my work space. I had some difficulty while pregnant with my third baby but I still had to work at my computer, so to limit my going up and down stairs, Brandon helped set up my desk in our bedroom. It was supposed to be a temporary solution, but Calvin is five months old already and I’m still working from the same spot! It was a bit of surprise, how much I would love working here.

Since I see my desk all the time, I figured it was about time I spruced it up a bit. The task lighting needed to be addressed, and I knew I could pick up a handful of things from Target with my $100 makeover budget that would help my cluttered desktop and drawer.

Desk Accessories from Target and GE reveal Lighting

You can see how I put everything to use and the difference that GE reveal® bulbs made in this week’s #100reveal video.

The drawer needed a lot of help. I know some people are OK with an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mess, but that kind of thing drives me crazy! I’m far from being neat all the time, but I do like my drawers, cabinets, and closets to be tidy. I picked up a jewelry organizer that fit perfectly inside the desk and separated everything into compartments.

Messy Desk Drawer

Just about everything that was in the drawer was put back, the only exception being the printer ink refills which went in one of the nesting boxes I picked up at Target.

Organized Desk Drawer | Making it Lovely

The room is flooded with beautiful light during the day, but it was less lovely when the sun went down. We rely on lamps in the bedroom rather than overhead lighting, but the bulbs cast a yellow tint that turned our blue/gray walls green. Switching them to GE reveal® LED bulbs kept the colors true and the room instantly looked better.

Before and After GE #100reveal Lighting Makeover | Making it Lovely

I can get pretty hungry throughout the day since I’m nursing, so I’ve been keeping chocolate covered almonds at my desk (yum!). The container isn’t so nice to look at though, so I tucked it inside another of the nesting boxes I picked up. I keep water nearby too, and the occasional cup of coffee.

Desktop | Making it Lovely

My desk wasn’t terrible before, but it’s much better now with a little organization and a lighting upgrade.

#100reveal I had a lovely home office area .. and then the adjoining playroom encroached. Yikes! I could use a new worktable for projects, and it looks like the hand-me-down office chair has finally become un-sit-downable. New lighting in the space could make the room more functional at night – or task lighting for specific areas during the day, since it’s a basement space.

I recently moved across the US from central Iowa to Schenectady, NY where GE headquarters are located! I run my business from my workspace in the spare bedroom and have my desk in the bedroom of my apartment. Investing in the move has left me with no budget to make the space inspiring and lovely. I would spruce up my workspace with organizing elements that are both useful and pretty. New spot lighting over my work table, of course with the GE reveal LED bulbs, some wall decorations for inspirations boards and art pieces to make it feel welcoming and a place to enjoy everyday! #100reveal

Our home office is such a mess. We really need some added organization in there. We get beautiful natural light during the day, but our ceiling fan is crazy blah and the lighting is lackluster. Target has such cute lamps. We could use some task lighting. I absolutely adore your drawer organizing idea. Our desk has NO drawers so tabletop organization is a must. I’m not sure if I won a gift card I’d put it towards a work space right now, honestly…my brother and sister-in-law just bought their first house, and it has some serious 70’s business going on in the basement. Think brady bunch. But money is super tight right now making it all work and with how frugal they are, I doubt they’ll be making many changes for a few years…unless a sweet little sister pops over with a $100 gift card, and shows them how inexpensive (or free, with a gift card!) some of those changes could be. That’d be awesome. I’d feel like a freaking fairy godmother.

I too have a 27 in iMac but unfortunately sits on a cheap mdf walmart desk. I fear everyday that it’ll give out and my life will come crashing down with the cheap material. My desk is currently cluttered with pencils, pens, school supplies, work documents, homework and other odds and ends. This area is utilized as my “office” when i work from home during the day and also as a homework station after school. Work documents and homework tend to pile up because there’s really no place to put thing especially since it lacks storage. With the gift card to target, i would love to use it towards a new desk. Preferably with drawers/storage compartments. I would also love to use it towards some organizational boxes so i can better organize everything. It’ll help out a lot especially with the kids’ stuff so they have a centralized area to place all the pencils and pens and their homework. This way they’ll always know where everything is. #100reveal

My home office has two lighting options, a horrible, harsh, glary overhead can light and light from the window. I opt for the natural light because I can’t stand the overhead light. I need a nice desk lamp. #100reveal

I would use the $100 to get a lamp and some things to help organize all my paperwork.

I work from home almost entirely. My office space is shared with two dogs and their crates, plus all the random junk from the rest of the house and whatever my kids drag in when I’m not working. What I would love is some organizational stuff that would allow me to use the room for the dual functions it needs – a home office for my work, and a home office for my day to day life of bill paying, caring for the kids and keeping track of their stuff, a space for the husband and *his* stuff that ends up in here… I know it can be done, it just needs to be revamped and reorganized. Right now, my work papers are piled onto my desk along with a scarf, a baseball hat, one lone child’s shoe, a crayon bank, and two stuffed animals. It feels claustrophobic, and I would love to get a jump start on changing that! :) #100reveal

My workspace could certainly use some sprucing… I like my setup but it really needs some accessories and other things to make it pop and make it more useful! The #100reveal would help create a more naturally lit space – I can’t believe the difference it made for your office/bedroom space! I want the same for my office!

My desk at home needs to be de-cluttered. I need to throw old papers away and be more diligent about filing important papers. I could also use a new light on my desk and the #100reveal would help!

My desk is currently in a dark corner. New lighting and some organization would be great.

I am moving from Pennslyvania to Tennessee in 2 months and will be creating my first ever home office. After working as a nurse for 30 years, it will be a huge change. How awesome would it be to have wonderful lighting #100reveal and top of the line Target office supplies?!? My transition would be on point! #target #homeoffice #workingit

My little office space totally needs a complete makeover. There’s poor light in the area, my desk is located in a corner and everytime I try to recreate my small place to focus on my work or daily activities I end up taking the laptop to my sofa just out of my working spot. I’d like to have a modern lamp and more natural plants to reward myself after hours of hard work. Redesigning the area would be ideal. I loved the ideas in this post!
