Double Parlor Exterior & Garden The Victorian House

Color Your Home with Fall Leaves

Pier 1 reached out with an opportunity to decorate with their latest collection inspired by the colors of fall leaves. Ah, fall! My favorite. Sweaters and boots! The kids are back in school! We can take out our ugly window AC units! Fall is the best.

You know that our house has a ton of wood everywhere. I wasn’t sure about adding in more autumnal colors, but I walked over to the store to check everything out in person and there were a ton of options that I wanted to bring home. I decided I was in, and then I started by choosing a garland for the fireplace mantel. They had the typical fall leaves (oak, maple, red, yellow, orange), and a few pretty berry options, but I was drawn to the subtle colors of this garland with a bit of gold mixed in.

When I saw the matching wreath, I picked that up too. We always hang one on the front door for Christmas, but I’ve never had a wreath during the rest of the year. We know a few people that put different ones up all the time — spring flowers, stars and stripes for the 4th, autumn leaves, traditional Christmas — and they always struck me as being very welcoming. Now we have one of our own up for fall.

Fall Wreath on the Front Door

Back inside, the garland was to form the first layer, and then I’d planned on adding candles and flowers to create a fall display in front of a large mirror on our fireplace. That was the plan, before I saw the birds.

I ended up using a few pillar stands to give the birds a place to perch for some height, and then I used a couple more on the other side of the room for candles.

Living Room

Dueling mirrors! I think the peacock mirror is staying put and the other above the fireplace will be relocated. I mean, this mirror (from Pier 1, a while back) is kinda perfect where it is.

Peacock Mirror and Red Console Table

The red of the table, the brown of the wood, and the garland of fall leaves are all working together for a nice autumnal feel. Candles always make a room cozier too. And the birds! I am fond of those birds.

Do you like to mark the change of seasons in your decorating? And of course there’s the wreath question. Do you prefer your door unadorned? Or do you go for a wreath year-round, or just at Christmas?

I am pretty minimalist when it comes to holiday decor. Mostly, I’m not interested in lots of knick-knacks that I have to find a place to store, nor have I had the budget to do much more than a Halloween pumpkin in the past. This year we had our house painted and new exterior lights installed. I celebration, I put together a fall themed wreath from sale items at Michael’s to hang on the front door. I can’t wait to put the cherry on the sundae when the guys finish up this week!

    your front door is stunning!

I would love if you could put together a post sometime on shopping sources and considerations for wooden front doors appropriate for more historic homes?

Do you do anything of your own volition anymore? I’m out. I’ve been a fan since the beginning, but this is enough. Good luck in the future!

Did you do the flower arrangements, too? I love them – the colors are great against the dark walls and they are very nicely balanced. Have you done a flower arranging post? That could be fun.

Although I do understand other readers’ frustration at what seems to be lack of ‘original’ content, personally I love these posts that provide ideas for how to use easily obtained and reasonably priced decorating items. I had no idea that Pier One had such a great assortment of candle pillars and now I know where to shop if the need arises. My thanks!

I too understand the frustration of some commenters, there seem to be a few who resent bloggers offering shopping suggestions. What I don’t understand is how they decorate– everything in décor involves a purchase-even if you make it yourself it is made of parts or supplies that were once a part of a purchase. Unless they shear their own sheep and card their own wool or make their own furniture? I enjoy seeing your suggestions and no one is forcing me to buy anything.

If you are able to blend sponsored material into such gorgeous content, I don’t see why it would be an issue.

Your mantle styling is beautiful! I like how this post reads almost like a challenge – and I think you mixed the autumnal colors in with your dark woods really well.

Also, wanna know what I hate about sponsored posts? All of the whining about sponsored posts in the comments. ><

You know what I sincerely wish fo? I wish I had awesome companies sponsoring me so I could do a blog about all the cool stuff I get for it. So I could put pretty pictures up and people could get inspired.

If people don’t like what happens here, guess what, there are a million other blogs to read. You’ve stated your two cents on what you do and don’t like. But the last time I checked the only perfect person I’ve heard of was Jesus. Do you expect her to be spot on every day for everyone forever?

It’s fine to say that you think she’s feeling uninspired, but this constant banter about what she can’t do is so annoying. And it actually reeks of jealousy and bitterness. And I can say that because I am totally jealous she gets to work with all these companies and get gorgeous things. But I don’t let it control my life.

If you don’t like it, Move on.

Feels like Fall to me! But I live in Coastal Georgia and we are still in flip flops, so I am having a hard time thinking Autumn, which doesn’t officially begin until the middle of the week anyway! But its great you are getting a quick start, because before you know it….its that merry time of year again!

I think this looks lovely, and I have no problem at all with it being a sponsored post. Everything comes from somewhere! It’s what you do with it that counts, and you do wonderful work with it. Thanks for the post!
