I TOTALLY feel that way about trends. I painted several rooms in my house gray, or gray shades of blue about 4 years ago, now I see gray EVERYWHERE. It doesn’t make me dislike it, but I do wonder if when we sell our house in a year or two if the realtor will want us to repaint because it will be “dated.”

Whenever I walk past one of those Mold-A-Rama machines, the smell takes me back to childhood… though I mainly associate it with the Museum of Science & Industry vs Brookfield :)

Yes about trends! Not that it makes me like it less, but makes me think others see me as just a trend doer, not true to myself. ie-I began clipping pictures of ivory lace wedding dresses like, 20 years ago…But when I was shopping a few years ago, they were all the rage, and it was all anyone was wearing. I felt like I was just one of the pack. I began clipping white kitchens so long ago, and now that’s all there is, it doesn’t feel original, or unique, or almost even beautiful because it seems standard and predictable. So I have to wonder if it’s what I really love, or if I love it because it’s different. All the same, I had an ivory lace wedding dress, and our kitchen (we JUST bought a house) will be lots of white. They’re both timeless, so maybe that’s my problem. :)

Trends have been encouraged by stores to ensure regular sales, in “Au bonheur des dames” ( The Ladies’ Delight ) of Zola, we can see this transition from ancient commercial practices to today model.

I feel it’s accelerating with social medias and globalization but I keep same objects since I’m a young adult able to buy by myself and I feel they don’t age as I chose simple designs in good materials. I think simplicity never pass of trend.
