A Chesterfield, But Not

Boxy, tufted, 70s-inspired seating is trending right now. Usually leather, but not always. Like a classic chesterfield and a Ligne Roset Togo had a baby that went Alex P. Keaton and stiffened up. OK, so maybe a little 80s influence is in there too.

Ken Fulk Quilted Leather Sofa for Pottery Barn

Yes. Do want. Sentences not forming properly.

Boxy, Tufted, 70s-Inspired Seating

  1. The Kettleby Collection, Anthropologie (linen or velvet, lots of colors)

  2. Ellis Chesterfield Leather Chair, Rejuvenation

  3. Field Bench, CoCoCo

  4. Drake Sofa, Jayson Home

  5. Ken Fulk Quilted Leather 3-Piece Sofa, Pottery Barn (also pictured above)

What do you think? Are you as into these as I am? The pink linen and kelly green versions of that first one are amazing, if not entirely practical. (All those fabric tufts, plus kids and pets? Not such a great choice. Leather is a little less of a magnet for fur and crumbs.)

Tufted leather always looks like a brioche to me, especially when it’s shiny.

OMG!! And swoon on the tiny formal staircase leading to the coffee table!! How is that small bit of strange my favorite part!??

I was drawn to the little stairs too!

I love them too! But if I had them in my house my little dog would most certainly use them.

5 hits the nail on the head but 4 comes across as a little too “corduroy” for me. Thanks for sharing!

In Canada, if you are of a certain age, chesterfield = any couch or sofa. So not not a chesterfield.

I love #4 even though it’s not something that I would consider “my style” at all. It kind of reminds me of a modern/funky take on the 40’s aviation theme that you see at RH.

I like it! I’ve also been noticing leather couches that resemble (fugly) muppet couches, but they’re not. They’re more streamlined and look way more sophisticated. I’m liking those too.

Once one passes 60, those low pieces can go in the attic.
A decent wing chair with support and high enough off the ground to be easy to get into and out of, now that’s the very best for people with knees.
60 might seem old now, but wait til you get there and find out how young you still feel inside, even as the body complains, and after70 it positively screams for comfort over all.

    Ooh, the little stairs :)
Where can I find those please?
    Thank you.

I’m in love with #4, even though it would leave weird marks on the backs of my legs. So Art Deco!

Saw this (https://madison.craigslist.org/fuo/5226486542.html) and thought of your sofa wishes…80’s and some 60’s too?

My fiancée wanted a leather couch real bad and I would unintentionally only be open to a chesterfield couch with the tufted look, which he did not like. I’m not a huge fan of leather but I do love them in this look.

Can you do a splurge – save option on these too — I would like to see some less expensive options!

I haven’t seen any ‘save’ options in this style. Places like Home Decorator’s Collection or Overstock carry chesterfields, but they’re pretty traditional in style.

    Totally into it.

Although I don’t find leather the comfiest so I would maybe stick with the chairs and not a sofa? But I’m in love with the look.

The inspiration photo is lovely to look at, but I am not a fan of the style. I’m not near 60, but I like sofas I can lounge on. These look uncomfortable and lumpy.

Love the Pottery Barn version and am in the market for a new sofa, but it looks like it’s not on their website, do you think it’s sold out or is it, fingers crossed, not up online yet?

I saw a floor model on clearance in the store, and that combined with it being off the site looks like it has sold out.
