Dining Room Holidays

Our Holiday Table

We host brunch each year on Christmas Eve, and then we have family over for Christmas dinner the next night. Menu planning is not my strong suit — we manage all right, but the part I get excited about is figuring out the decor and setting the table. (Time to break out the gold flatware!)

Dinner Party Table Setting | Making it Lovely

I like the table to be a little different each year, mixing in a few new finds with the dinnerware and linens we already own. It’s set here with our everyday glasses and plates, along with our gold chargers, mercury glass vases (really votive holders, lined with a glass inside), the aforementioned gold flatware, and a patterned tablecloth. The flowers are simple grocery store blooms, and I made a couple of bouquets out of Christmas tree picks for more sparkle. The cute salad plates from Pier 1 are new, and I picked up those green napkins too. I like that they add Christmas color, but can be used year-round with other settings.

I’ve made the mistake of going too tall with centerpieces in the past, so I aimed to keep them lower this year. No craning our necks to talk to one another across the table! I’ve learned!

Those plates are so cute, right? I can’t wait to break them out when everyone’s over. If you’re looking for a few new additions for your table, you can get the look with the items below.

Beautiful as usual! Which of your favorite pink paints is that on the dining room wall? I’m trying to convince my husband to go subtle pink in the living room of our (also Victorian, but darker-wood) house. There’s a Stockholm credenza to contend with, too, and I’m having a tough time complementing it. Ideas?? I pretty much trust you implicitly. ;)

That’s Basking Ridge Beige, Benjamin Moore. It won’t look terribly pink in the fan deck or on a paint chip, but it will read pink on the walls and if you’re looking for subtle and not overly girly, this is your color. It’s a close match for Farrow & Ball’s Setting Plaster.

Your table setting is fun and elegant…a tough combination but you pulled it off beautifully. I especially like the plates – they’ll be perfect with my Black/White Spode – and they say Christmas in a delightfully new way. Thanks for the inspiration!

Firstly, a Christmas Eve brunch sounds like such a lovely tradition. Secondly, I’m not a huge fan of the tablecloth, but those plates and the green & gold theme is gorgeous and so fun!.

Well if this doesn’t make you excited for Christmas I don’t know what will.

How has your gold flatware been holding up? I’ve been looking for a set that can go in the dishwasher but I’ve been reading a lot of comments that most of them don’t hold up over time. Would love to have it as an every day set (my husband hates our current set and I’ve been given the green light to buy whatever I want within reason) but dishwasher safe is a must…

We use stainless steel flatware everyday and save the gold for special occasions. We do throw it in the dishwasher which has been fine, but I can’t speak to how well it would hold up all day everyday.

Beautiful! I love those salad plates. They make me wish I had Christmas hosting duties! Love the tablecloth, too. Did you link to the curtains because they’re a similar look – or did you really use them as a tablecloth? ;)

No, the curtains are to bring in pattern to the room as a whole! I suppose you could use them as a tablecloth too though? Hmm… might not hold up well to stains. ;)
