Bathrooms The Victorian House

Bathroom (Third Floor) Progress

Whew! I’ve been painting and painting the bathroom. The wood trim around the window and doorway has been primed and I’ve given it three coats of white paint. The door got the same treatment, but in black. The beadboard walls and ceiling have all been given a fresh coat of paint too, which took forever. But it all looks so good!

Next up? More paint. I think I’m doing a tumbling blocks pattern on the floor — I just have to figure out the best way to go about doing it.

Bathroom (Third Floor) Progress

I have to clean and prep the floor tomorrow, and then I can jump in. I’ve been playing around with the pattern in Photoshop, trying to figure out if I should go with a stencil, tape it off, or sketch the lines and freehand the paint. It’s been a long time since I’ve painted a floor. I feel like I made it a lot easier on myself last time with a flowing, organic pattern rather than something precisely geometric. Ah, but then I won’t be nine months pregnant this time around, so perhaps this will be easier after all!

I agree with Peggi. The larger size looks really good and should save you some time. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished room!

You should try to find Linda at Cibstencil in Forest Park or River Forest. She cuts great stencils even though I don’t think her store is still open. She’s probably in the book, as they say. I’m sure she would have good ideas about the floor and how to make it a bit easier on you! If you’re interested, email me and I can at least give you her good friend’s number so you could contact her.

Wow I’m surprised you’re going this direction! It’s going to be so fun. Let your creativity flow and go with your gut on what pattern you want – no matter how tedious it is. It’ll be a project that makes you smile every time you go into that bathroom.

maybe this is super obvious, but i cut a stencil, based on a west elm rug pattern i liked, into mylar i bought at blick and it worked great, using a relatively dry sponge.

Looks great! I was surprised when I scrolled down and saw the sample floor designs! I pictured something much larger in scale, graphic, I guess.

Use the wood boards as a guide for your verticals then tape off the angled pieces to make your life easier!

I can’t wait to see how you do this! I want to do it for a small closet but I’m not sure where to begin. The room looks better already.
