Calvin's Room Decorating

Folkland Bedroom

We’re taking Calvin’s crib out of his room soon, so I’ve been looking at beds. I feel like it’s wide open at this point. Wood, metal, upholstered? A Jenny Lind like Eleanor’s? A take on the cannonball bed, like our Quincy? Or I can pick up another IKEA bed to hack, so that not only will I have August’s in a half-finished state, there will be a second to work on! (That’s probably not the best idea. And I should finish that project, eh?)

I came across this upholstered headboard in my search. Isn’t the fabric fantastic? It has become pretty obvious to me that I like this sort of leafy, whimsical motif, with bonus points if there is some fauna among the flora. It’s the kind of print that can work well for a wide range of ages, so I had a little fun imagining it in a room with a decidedly non-toddler feel to it.

Folkland Bedroom

  1. Jones Acorn 8-Drawer Dresser
Such simple lines, but would you look at that hardware?

  2. Uttermost Junius Round Gold Round Mirror
This is the same oversized mirror I used in our bedroom.

  3. Oro Table Lamp
Glam. The shade is lined in gold too.

  4. Delphine Chair
The chair can be customized, but I like the stock green fabric.

  5. Ceramic Bud Vase
A handmade vase is a nice counterpoint to some of the more sleek elements.

  6. Fez Wool Shag Rug, Ivory / Slate
The texture of a shag rug is always so nice in a bedroom.

  7. Bexley Nesting Bedside Tables
Spare lines and a brass finish. Plus a drawer! Always a plus in a bedside table.

  8. Häxört Bedding
White bedding, but with one special detail.

  9. Folkland Loran Upholstered Headboard
Available in another shape too. The print is so good!

Fun, right? It’s a contender for Calvin’s room, but it’s early on in the search. I’d love to see some good options if you have a favorite twin-sized bed!

We have IKEA MANDAL queen beds and MICKE desks in both our boys rooms and have california closets in their closets and we designed it so they have enough shelving to fit their books and legos etc in there too. No other furniture. We chose the IKEA MANDAL beds because the storage is really really useful. They put all their toys in there and also some school stuff and I try to organize the drawers it according to category of play things (stuffed animals, pretend/costume play etc. Plus, the bed is low height, so no worrying about the kids rolling off in their sleep.
I would say go with a low twin bed with the drawers. You will love the extra storage room.
    Enjoy decorating Calvin’s room!

I know that fabric! I’ve looked at it and thought of turning it into wallcovering for our hallway. Just did a quick search and it seems to be on a mega sale here — https://www.mahoneswallpapershop.com/product/folkland-admiral-robert-allen-dwellstudio-decorative-modern-fabric

I love that fabric, and know you could work magic with it.

My two wee boys are in their father’s vintage identical twin beds, so I’m no help in that regard. Other than that I say the idea of a toddler with a padded headboard makes me happy because of the tantruming and head banging that can happen. Or is that just my children?? :-)

I love it! I’ve been eyeing the Upholstered Settee in that pattern from The Land of Nod for years now – just need an actual place to put it. Can’t believe he is growing so fast, seems like minutes since you started on the nursery.

Oh man…I’m leaving my 21 month old in his crib as long as possible! But he doesn’t even try to climb out; if he was more adventurous I’d consider it. I absolutely love this room design; very appealing to all ages and that’s not common. Excited to see what you end up doing.

My boys have all stayed in their cribs until two-and-a-half when we moved them out because we were starting potty training! None of them tried to climb out either, thank goodness! I’m not sure they knew they could even try. We probably could have left them in there longer.

That fabric is just lovely. And it sort of makes me want to sing the theme from The Last Unicorn when I look at it (someone please tell me I’m not the only one?) Also I vote for finished bed, not a project, because the more small children you have at home, the more good ideas end up in Project Limbo, right? ;)

try to avoid twin bed if you can,I read that the brain registers the lack of space and does not completely relax into the most restful sleep due to fear of falling. This was supposedly a scientific study with children but also adults so just FYI
