Dashing Through the Snow

We spent Thanksgiving break up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin with some of Brandon’s family. We’re getting back into the swing of things here at home, breaking out the rest of our Christmas decorations (kind of late for us), and scheming up big overall plans for what’s next in this old house of ours.

But today, snowy day pictures!

Up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin

That coat is on sale today, 40% off. It’s the Chateau Parka in electric red from J.Crew. I got mine last year and I love it.

Out in the Snow

It hasn’t snowed in Chicago yet, so the kids were so excited to be able to go sledding.

Calvin in his little gnome hat

That little cutie! His tongue sticking out ups the adorable factor x100. That gnome hat is on sale today too from Hanna Andersson. I’ll roundup some of my favorites for winter gear at the end.

Our Favorite Winter Gear

Some stuff, we aren’t particular about. I buy a zillion matching stretchy gloves for the kids because they all go together, they’re cheap, and as we lose one or two throughout the season, we just grab a replacement. Snow pants are usually hand-me-downs from older cousins. The coats and boots and cute stuff though, I play favorites.

A lot of these are on sale today! I’ll note coupon codes where available.

  • COATS
I buy coats for spring and fall from various places, but the kids’ warm winter puffers are always from Gap. They’re warm, they hold up (Eleanor and August are wearing their coats from last year, and Calvin is wearing a hand-me-down from when August was little), and they’re cute. Sometimes I buy their outerwear in unisex styles so they can be passed down and I can’t remember if Eleanor’s is from the girls’ section or the boys’, but that length makes me think it’s for a girl. You can always pick one up on sale too — right now everything is 50% off with code CYBMON. For girls, for boys, and for toddler girls and boys.

Brandon’s parka is from Lands’ End, 45% off with code CYBER and pin 1000. Mine is from J.Crew, 40% off with code MONDAY.

  • BOOTS
Brandon and I each have Sorel winter boots. I have red Hunter wellies too (25% off today) with fleece lining socks, but for extended periods in the snow, I wear my Sorel boots. Army green for him, and tan with red laces for me.

Eleanor has a pair of Sorel boots too — in black so they can be worn by her little brothers after she has outgrown them. August has Kamik Rocket snow boots, 24% off applied automatically. Calvin (who doesn’t spend as much time out in the snow as the older two) has more affordable snow boots from Target, 15% off applied automatically. All three keep the kids’ feet warm and dry, and they’re easy to get on and take off.

  • ACCESSORIES
Gnome hat! If you have a baby or toddler in your life, get them a gnome hat. Cutie cute cute. Those mittens he’s wearing are cute too, but be warned that they do not stay on so I wouldn’t recommend them. For the older two, I like the aforementioned stretchy black gloves — just a whole bunch of ’em.

I wear cashmere-lined leather gloves, 40% off today applied automatically. They were a Christmas present many years back, and I still appreciate them each winter. I bought Brandon Stormweather waterproof gloves from Columbia, 30% off today applied automatically. I suppose he likes them? He wears them, so good enough for me.
