Our house looks amazing right now! Nothing like the pressure of scheduling a shoot with your home as the location to get you cleaning. The kids still need a lot of supervision (the two-year-old especially), so Brandon and I worked in shifts from morning to night yesterday getting this place looking its best, trading off on kid and cleaning duty. The video is a wrap, so all we have to do now is not touch anything and we have a fighting chance of it staying this way for at least a few more hours?
We have some birthday parties to attend this weekend, and then we’ve got to get to planning August’s. He’s about to turn six! He wants the same party he had last year all over again (everyone builds Lego cars and races them down tracks that we made out of rain gutters). If this is what he’s into, I guess we do a repeat! It certainly makes the whole thing easier to pull together.
Maybe we’ll pick up supplies on Sunday. I want to stop by the Sleep Number store while I’m out that way anyway — they reached out about working together on a possible post and I’ve heard good things, but don’t have any experience with them. The adjustable factor was a big enticement for Brandon because his back acts up sometimes and he thinks more support might help.
But on to the Honor Roll! I’m feeling super inspired by these paper village installations by Zim & Zoe for Hermes in Dubai, and below are a few more things that have been on my radar lately.

I hadn’t realized it, so maybe you missed it too, but there was a free Animal Crossing New Leaf update released in November. I had stopped playing, but it’s fun again with the new features!

January 27, 2017 at 11:35 pmThose window displays are amazing! And I’d mostly agree about aging out of stores. I am 33 and don’t want any more IKEA, although their storage products are amazing! But now we live in Germany and most people (and places!) here have IKEA furniture. Old or young, IKEA is the way they go. I’m surprised because they have a few other stores similar to IKEA, but with improved quality and a higher price point and people often still go to IKEA. Interesting for sure!

My 72-year-old mother recently downsized and has purchased more than a few IKEA items for her new home. My 75-year-old mother-in-law also loves a good IKEA outing. I think true fans are fans for life!

January 30, 2017 at 6:01 amSleep Number beds are essentially glorified air mattresses. The air pressure is how you adjust the firmness of the mattress, and they don’t hold up particularly well. I’d recommend skipping Sleep Number and all the inexpensive internet foam mattresses, going to a real mattress store, and buying the best inner spring mattress you can afford. You can even get a split king or queen mattress (depending on the size of your bed) so that each of you has a mattress with appropriate firmness.

January 30, 2017 at 8:46 amLove love love Sleep Number mattresses! My Mom bought her YEARS ago (10+) and its still holding up. My husband and I tried so many mattresses that were delivered to our home, and they were awful (Beautyrest, Tempurpedic). We are so happy with Sleep Number primarily, because my husband likes his side more firm than me. We’ve had ours for about 5+ years now. This will be the only mattresses I ever buy again. I wish we could have purchased the type of SN mattress that also raises up (I also heard that sleeping in a zero-gravity position is supposed to be wonderful! So definitely look into those. The raising of the head or feet (or both) of a mattress should also help snoring, if that’s an issue.

January 30, 2017 at 10:09 ammy husband and i have had two different sleep number beds over the past 12 years, and we are in love with them. our first one was a relatively low model, because we didn’t have the money to put into anything too grand. but we wanted different support out of a mattress, and sleep number offered that. we loved it so much that when we finally were able to upgrade, we went full-throttle. the first time i climbed into our new bed, i had literal tears in my eyes. it was so damn comfortable. the only problem with sleep number is that every time we try to sleep on a conventional mattress (visiting family; traveling), neither of us sleeps well. it’s a blessing and a curse.

January 30, 2017 at 10:58 amMy husband and I have had a SleepNumber mattress for the last 4 years and are really happy with it. You do have to be sure to set it pretty often as it loses pressure over time (but still displays the same #.) This might be something that they’ve addressed in the last couple of years or that’s not an issue on higher-end models, but it’s my only complaint.

January 30, 2017 at 1:28 pmtry a tempurpedic. They have a great trial period,it was 120 days when we bought ours in 2003-so I Figured nothing ventured…..and if we didn’t like it back it would go. We LOVE it. I was 63 when we bought it and I think I had fibromyalgia such pain and when I got up I walked bent over till I could get moving. All gone,at 76 I get out of Bed pain free(except for my wonky knee) and that was 2 encounters with my Sons 150 lb Rottweiler who was heading in the same direction as I was and he won…both times. I have had people tell me that some people are allergic to sleeping on the metal of the springs. Sounds doubtful but who knows?
