Honor Roll

Honor Roll

I’ll be twirling into the weekend like a big happy rainbow in my new Marimekko maxi dress. I shared it on my Instagram Stories a couple of days ago because when I told Brandon that he probably wasn’t going to like my latest find, he said “I’d love you in whatever loose linen sleeping bag you put on your body.” Jokes on him. It’s cotton.

Onward!

So I read through the vintage kitchen article on apartment therapy and read a related article and discovered (!!) that the person who came up with the kitchen work triangle was efficiency engineer Lillian Gilbreth. You know what else she did? She is the mom from “Cheaper by the Dozen.” The real one. My mind is blown and now I have something nerdy to talk about all weekend long. :).

The old Cheaper by The Dozen book is pretty interesting to read although it has been years since I’ve done it. She always loved her husband, through 12 births and a fairly long marriage. I think that part alone is fascinating.

I didn’t know that! I’ve never seen the movie or read the book, but I’m interested now.

and of course a big part of that story is that she was able to continue her work as an efficiency expert to work and support her (large) family after her husband died. I really liked the book when I was a kid because it’s written by one of the daughters and gives a great perspective into what it was like to come of age at the beginning of the 20th century. If you want to watch the movie make sure it’s the 1950 version not the contemporary one of the same name since the plot is completely unrelated to the Gilbreth family :)

I love when you go into some crappy third floor walk up that’s endured years of student housing abuse, and then you glance at the ceiling and it’s tin tiles :)

I read it in the car while we were driving back from Wisconsin. I kept recapping every few paragraphs to Brandon, like “did you know…”

I saw that dress on Brittany from The House that Lars Built and immediately loved it! Too far out of my price range, but I whole-heartedly approved!! :)

Yes, I saw her in it too! She’s always so cute. Anthro had all of their dresses on sale, and this was back in stock, so I snapped it up. Wearing it again today for the eclipse!

As soon as I saw that agate wallpaper a couple of days ago, I thought of your house! Which is kind of strange, but it would be perfect with those pinkish brownish colors.
