Honor Roll

The wallpaper samples I’ve been waiting for arrived today, and oh my. This next project I’m working on is going to be so fun! I’ll share more details next week — it’s all very hush-hush for now but I can’t wait to show you. And really, I’m kind of working on a million projects at once, but it’s all going to come to fruition at about the same time. Exciting! Time-consuming! Worth it! You’ll see. Soon.

We had a basement pottie in our house in Highland Park when I was growing up. My dad put walls up around it with a wooden swing door. It was our “emergency” pottie since we only had one bathroom. This was way back in the day. It’s interesting to see them called Pittsburgh potties. Our house was formerly my grandparents’ house and grandma was originally born in Pittsburgh. Grandpa built this house. I can just hear his father-in-law telling him to put one of these potties in the basement!

In the basement of my grandparents house in Detroit was a lone toilet, tucked near the old coal (converted to gas) furnace, known here as an octopus. It pretty much was my papa’s, but in case of an emergency, was a handy thing to have

We have a toilet room in the basement, luckily it has a door. I did go to an estate sale nearby once where the toilet and shower were just in the corner of the basement. We don’t use ours much but it will be very handy when I need to re-tile the bathroom (we have just the one). I’ve been through a short bath remodel and was without a toilet for 3 days. Luckily our backyard adjoined my mother’s church and we got permission to use the bathroom there.
