Making it Yours (MIY) is all about using the furniture you have in new ways and taking pieces with you throughout your life. In this edition of MIY, our fictional homeowner has moved from a home with a breakfast nook and room for four Real Good Chairs to a new home where the chairs will have to be split up. First up, we’ll see one of the chairs in a home office.
The basics of the room are neutral. Soft grayish white walls, an interesting white desk, a simple bookshelf, and a handsome file cabinet make up the foundation. A graphic pencil cup adds pattern, and for color we have orangey/red carpet tiles and an orange desk lamp. Blancucha’s Monsieur III print in a simple frame adds a little more color and fun, and russel + hazel’s collator corrals clutter on the desk.
Next, we’ll see one of the chairs in a bedroom.

This office looks fantastic, Nicole. I have a question about the Ribba frame. I love Ikea frames, but like many people I’m frustrated by the sizes. Do you buy custom matting? The “Monsieur III” print is 8×11, but the closest Ribba frame is 8 1/4 x 10 3/4.
You have real knack for design. I love these MIY.
LOVE THIS!!!! i just love seeing what you come up with. you have totally inspired me to redo my home office and make it brighter and more fun[ctional]. i think a spot of orange would do the trick. :)
Sean, custom mats are usually only a few dollars. Or sometimes I’m lazy and don’t get around to it, so I’d just live with the extra 1/8″ on each side of the print. ;)
the collateral is awesome! and susyjack ANYTHING is soo cute…
i think the fact that you are kinda “promoting” artists is suuch a great thing…i just checked out susyjack..and her little clips are super cute and unique…
thanks for one artist to another! :)
the room is really simple and down right adorable!
LOVE that print – good choices overall.
Wow! Thank you so much mentioning my pencil cup! It’s really cool to see something I made in amongst these…ahem…’real’ products, haha. Even after longer than a year in the paper biz…it still feels weirdly like a hobby! Thank you for making my day. : )

I would like to post about your site on my blog…I’m doing some posts on organizing and I just love your photo on flickr and the square storage ideas. wow…this is right up my alley. You have great ideas and I want other people to visit your site. Beautiful!

If my office looked that good…I would be in heaven.
I always look at those LACK shelves when I’m at IKEA, but I’ve yet to purchase.
<3 Also, you’ve been chosen for a little award — visit my blog to see, or visit this post in particular: http://desireefawn.blogspot.com/2008/12/honest-scrap.html
