These photos are from last week; it’s all mud and slush now.
And I know better now than to buy pink for things that will be seldom worn and then passed down.

Just wanted to leave a comment and say that these are some gorgeous pictures of your family! Thanks for sharing!

Ha! August in the pink snow pants. That’s priceless!
First House Spouse
That is the most sophisticated outfit a guy has ever worn to play in the snow!

Historically, pink was a boys color anyway (because it was an offshoot of red and red was much too strong a color for delicate little girls). So August is both historically accurate (retro!) and fashionable because if you can rock pink, rock pink.

Wow, you did such a great job with these photos! I have such a hard time taking pictures in the snow and capturing the actual snow in the air. These are gorgeous.
I have the older boy, and the younger daughter who gets the hand me down coats and snow pants…she wears a lot of orange and navy!

My brother and I are less than a year and 1/2 apart, I definitely wore a lot of orange and navy too! :) Actually, in most of the photos, we’re both in overalls…the perfect unisex hand-me-down, ha. :) Pretty cute though, I have to say. Although…My mom said that at some point though, I refused to wear even jeans unless they were pink. :)

Haha, poor August! These snowy photos are magical =)

Just had to post a photo of my little boy in his pink shirt this summer. So cute that August picked a pink balloon. :)

We live in Chicago too and I've been loving all of the play in the snow. (and YES, adorable kiddie photos of pure joy in the stuff).
Love your blog Nicole. I've been following for a couple years, but it's funny, I never really commented on blogs until I finally started one and realized how nice it is to connect to your readers…so yep, just another out here enjoying your words and photos!

I love the snow, it makes such pretty pictures! … although I have to say I am so over winter, I can’t believe how cold it is here in the UK, it’s March, it should be spring but we seem to have plunged back into winter …

Fun! Fresh snow is always so beautiful. I wish it would magically not fall on the roads though. Having to get around in it worries me to no end, especially since we Seattleites not used to it. But it does sneak up on us every other year or so, so I have taken to purchasing our sn-overalls at the St. Vincent’s thrift store in the summertime off-season, just in case. Someone has inevitably outgrown theirs and donated them, and of course, they’re like new because they never get much use. But it’s good to have them just in case. We don’t want to miss out on a snow angel-making opportunity!

You have such a beautiful family! While I respect and admire your decision to limit your kids’ exposure on the blog, I really love posts like this where you share a little bit of their lives. They’re getting so big!
And I’m not sure if it’s true, but I’ve been told that pink used to be the traditional color for baby boys.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful family! One last big dump of snow before spring – it always seems like it gets worse before it gets better. Glad you guys got to get out and enjoy it :)

My mother always liked men wearing pink. She used to say it showed they were secure in their masculinity. Consequently, my father would wear pink dress shirts to work and didn’t mind the teasing, even in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He would just say, “My wife bought it for me and she loves me so when I wear pink, it makes me think of how much she loves me.” My father is 90 now. He has never been very enlightened about most things, but at least on this, he got it right.

That’s sweet. I’m not against men and boys wearing pink (both Brandon and August do, often). I just want it to be more of a conscious choice, rather than foisted upon my little guy because he was born second.
Tall and Salty
This made me laugh! I have one younger brother and the one thing I was never allowed to have in pink or purple was snow pants. I never even WANTED to wear pink, but having them outlawed made me pine for them. Eleanor is a lucky girl (and August an accommodating little dude). Looks like they’re having a great time.
Amanda
What do the kids wear during winter, if you haven’t gotten much use out of the pants? My son is outside for at least two hours a day- all year round (as most Swedish kids are, at least the ones who go to preeschool). His winter clothes are usually worn out by march! Granted, we live in Sweden where I suspect we have colder winters than you have.
Making it Lovely
The kids only need their snow pants if there is snow on the ground to play with — otherwise they’re warm enough with pants, boots, and a warm winter coat.
Catherine
I always love seeing your little guy in pink! Both of your children are adorable, and what fun this must have been. :)
Barbara
Every time a read a post where you mention your children I always think the same thing……she’s a really good mom! Your love for them shines through.

Thank you!

My son has pink diapers. He also sleeps on a pink mini crib. I think little boys look very sweet in pink!
Laura
Haha. Love the snow pictures; we haven’t had snow this year in Seattle. At least you realize this while he is little and likes pink!
Megan @ Pink O'Clock
August’s eyelashes! I’m so jealous. ;)
Megan
We had a lot of fun in the (fingers crossed) last snow of the season, too.
Love the pink pants! Seeing my son in pink pjs, diaper covers, ect doesn’t faze me at all anymore. I guess that’s a good thing?
alisa
Haha! This post was great! Do you tend to get a lot of snow or just here and there? (Can you tell I’m from California?)
Making it Lovely
There’s usually snow, off and on, from late fall through early spring, but this year we didn’t have as much as usual. This storm gave us about 6″ of snow, which is a lot at once.
Paige
Uh-oh, we bought our {first} daughter pink snow pants too. We’ll have to see what happens for our next kid. Too cute!

I agree with Guilia! Not a darned thing wrong with a boy wearing pink. In fact, many boys like the color pink, until they’re programmed by other little boys and girls to think it’s just a girl color. :D Buck the trend!
wendy
but, remember, “seldom worn” means that august will hardly wear them either. :-)
and regardless, it doesn’t really matter. it’s just clothes. my younger daughter won’t wear 1/2 the stuff handed down from her sister… no jeans or dresses. younger one really just wants stretch pants, all the time.
Giulia
Nothing wrong with him wearing pink! Italian men have been wearing pink shirts for decades!

Actually, August likes pink! I took the kids out yesterday, and they each got a balloon. Eleanor picked blue and August picked pink.
