International Antiques Fair at the Merchandise Mart

The International Antiques Fair at The Merchandise Mart is taking place this weekend (Oct. 1-4). They’ve introduced a new section to the show called The Emporium (which included the booths noted with an asterisk) filled with more affordable mid-century modern wares. Here are ten of my favorites from the show…

Non-Clothing Inspiration from the New J.Crew Catalog

The clothes were great, but here’s what I really found inspiring in the latest J.Crew catalog…

Fuchsia lipstick. More specifically, Funny Face by Nars, which the catalog actually pointed out. I may have to add another lipstick to my favorites.

Next, I ran across the perfect shade of pink (with a lot of lilac in it). When I was a kid, my two favorite Crayola colors were thistle and orchid, and I think that color preference has stuck with me. I’m also liking the font here.

And then there was this five-year-old boy’s haircut from the crewcuts section. I think it would look pretty great on a lady. A lady like me, perhaps?

New Old-Fashioned Technology

I love the look of vintage technology. The ability to fix up old electronics however is not among the skills that I possess. Luckily there are plenty of new items that have the same styling as the classic old pieces. Here are four of my current favorites.

  1. Robers Revival Radio
  2. Retro Flip Clock
  3. Allaire Desk Fan
  4. Crosley Princess Phone

Do you have any similar new/old tech pieces in your home? I have three vintage-style phones: a red one in the bedroom (from Pottery Barn), a white one in my office (by Crosley), and a wall-mounted white one in the kitchen (also by Crosley). It’s sort of surprising that I don’t have that pink one though, eh?
